I did and my wife ruined the proposal because she thought I had stopped off at a bar because I smelled like cigarette smoke and beer.

The glitter on your crotch probably didn't help a-hole.

Yes, I drove to her parents house and her dad was outside working on a car. I told him my plans and asked if he was ok with it? He laughed and said that is fine.

Did he laugh and give you the OK on the marriage plans part or did you also tell him about the PIIHB plans part?

I was driving in from Houston and I had to divert to her parents house before getting home.

The 1 hour later arrival, smoke and beer scent had her all pissed off as soon as I had gotten home. So I had to scrap plans for the next night's proposal and had to do it that evening.

I asked, out of respect.

It wasn't really a question, so much as a statement.

He didn't have a choice. It was that, or eviscerate his shitty little world with my 4 iron.

He knew. He knew....

I asked so it was known that I asked. He's a piece of shite and screwed both daughters over (monetarily) for a long time. Gambling and drinking.

I'm paying for our wedding. I wish he would of told me I didn't have his blessing so I could laugh in his face

What happens if he beat her, raped her, etc?

Well then I obviously wouldn't have asked his permission. However, seeing as that happens to roughly 4% of all daughters out there by their fathers, and considering I know that wasn't the case, the thought never crossed my mind.

It's not outta respect its outta wanting his approval that you meet his expectations. It's pathetic.

It was absolutely out of respect cause I know that is what he wanted. So I guess it is pathetic that my FIL and I each show each other respect

No. He was killed in a car accident 3 years before. But we started dating in high school and he told me numerous times that I was the only guy any of his 3 girls dated he approved of and that I was the son he always wished for but never had. A week or two before he died he hugged me, told me he loved me and wanted me to be his SIL and the father of his grandkids by all 3 daughters. Of course, I had just finished a high school football playoff game and set a school record in tackles and block a last second field goal for the win. So, he may have been exaggerating just a tad. But they heard it and I certainly have brought it up over the years.

You're like the Al Bundy of Arkansas athletics....if Al would have gone on to have a successful medical practice.

I asked both the mom and dad at the same time. Her mother wasn't expecting it but was very happy and her dad was happy I included her as well.

Did the same thing, both parents loved it and once my wife found out I included both, well
