Did JBE have a press conference today?

He said to hell with the government's $1,200. He's getting everyone $120,000 for their inconvenience.

It was at 3:30 instead of 2:30 because he was in Monroe surveying tornado damage. Spent the early portion (~10 minutes or so) talking about storm damage and emergency response.
Ralph Abraham was on and basically sucked off Trump and Pence.
JBE said he would issue a proclamation in the next day or two about schools, but alluded to it not being practical to re-open them. They close around 5/20 anyway. It's not worth the trouble (My words, not his)
Google data shows we were bad children yesterday. There was a lot of cell phone movement.
Alex Billeaux got a big laugh, but I can't remember what he said. It was funny, I just can't remember.

It ended about 4:10 and started a couple of minutes late. Basically the same ol' shite ... stay at home and wash your hands.

Yeah, maybe so. But they're a lot of people who think this is a real threat to their health. Educated people.

A friends parents are a retired university professor (dad) and an RN (mom). They're worried and following guidelines. It's real to them.

My brother and brother in law are doctors in NO and NY, respectively. The one in NY has already had it and has gone back to the hospital earlier than planned because so many docs are out sick. The one in NO had worked 33 days straight until he took off for Easter. He's back at it today. Its real to them.

I get how hard this is for small business owners. But there are SBA loans being offered, in some cases forgivable. Everybody gets a $1200 check who makes below $99000, ~$125,000 if they're head of household, or ~146,000 if they file jointly. You can get $847 in unemployment with minimal paperwork. It sounds to me like the federal gov't is trying to ease your pain.

Do you really think they "crashed the economy" if the alternative wasn't much worse?

A friend of mine drove from Austin TX to Miami FL and he said BR had the most traffic of any city he drove thru. Houston and Orlando were ghost towns.

Okay, I don't understand.

How many is "plenty"? Give me an estimate, in the form of a percentage. 5%? 10%? 25%? 50%? Go ahead and include the small businesses that were poorly managed and/or under capitalized to start with. I'm genuinely curious what someone with a complete understanding of economics thinks about the subject.

I agree that undoubtedly some people will be losers in this deal and through no fault of their own. However, I think the federal government has put forth a decent effort (while funding the Kennedy Center and a thousand other pork projects) to help small businesses through this. And there's very likely more to come.

Since we're comparing letters behind our name, I have a BA in Management, a BA in Economics, and an MBA with a concentration in Finance. I'm not completely oblivious to the impact this shutdown will have on businesses.
