Meh...

I don’t tell you how to worship. What gives you the right to tell me how?

I was there. Just got home from lunch at Acme. Awaiting game while trying to get a read on the Gulf mid-week.

Nice.

I was Mary instead of Martha this morning (which doesn't happen that often).

Nobody’s telling you how to do anything. You asked why go to church and I answered the question for you.

If not going works for you, why be so defensive about your decision?

Shoutout to all who went to church, especially to lsunurse, who seems to have been hurt in the past but lives a positive life today with a good testimony. The Church (the body of believers in Jesus Christ, not the building itself) is made up of people whose sin debt was paid by Jesus when He voluntarily gave up His life on the cross at Calvary. We are still people prone to sin, still selfish, still disobedient, still unforgiving toward others but striving to take 2 steps forward after every step backwards.

I urge you to go to church (any CHRISTIAN fellowship) to learn how to become one of the body of believers and have peace with God. Life will still have its problems and sin will still be attractive but you can know that God will never forsake you after you become one of His children.

This is much better than waking up on Sunday mornings with a hangover, strung out on drugs or looking into the face of a woman who doesn't look nearly as good as she did when you picked her up last night.

You will never have peace until you get right with God through Jesus Christ. A good first step is a prayer of repentence on your knees in your bedroom, driving down the road in your pickup with the trucknuts or in a church where you will feel welcomed. Try it.

I went to mass this morning (SO is Catholic). It was good, and relevant regardless of faith. Being doers of the word, rather than hearers. How so many of us blindly follow human traditions of worship without real intention or God in our hearts. He made a Godfather reference.

I’ve been struggling lately with letting go of things I can’t control, and feeling weighed down by shitty things I’ve done in the past. The last reading was, “Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.” "From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile." It resonated with me, and reminded me to get back to basics: to keep love in my heart and live by the golden rule/10 commandments. I don’t have to beat myself up about the past, and I can be a good person.

I struggle with genuine belief in religion, but I needed to hear this.

From today’s gospel reading from Mark chapter 7:

quote:

He summoned the crowd again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.

"From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile."

Reminds me of some posters hereabouts, especially the “arrogance and folly” part.

Yes, I did. New minister from Cape Town, South Africa at the congregation here in north Georgia. I noticed on the way out after services that he had an LSU key chain attached to his computer case. I think I'm gonna really like this new minister!

I like going on Saturday evenings. Church isn't as packed. And I'm more likely to go on a regular basis on Saturday evenings. I'll be really good going every week then slack off and before you know it...a month has passed where I didn't go.

I normally go by myself or with my aunts sometimes. My husband stopped going with me a couple years ago. I know he still believes...but struggles. I stopped going when he stopped for several months (too easy to be like "well I'm not going by myself") until I realized him not going is between him and God and shouldn't stop me from building my own relationship with God.

Of course it makes me sad that he doesn't go right now, but I just have to believe that will change one day.

I went and am going again tonight. I’ll miss the first 30 min of the game, but I figure we need all the help we can get

I went to ‘worship’ today.

Considering we are the church, it’s not a building.
