re: Did any of you feel stuck in college?

If you make 150k working 80 hours a week, versus someone making 150k working 40 hours a week, your pay isn't equal
The difference is that out of high school, one is spending 6k-20k/year on college while the other is making 100k/year working OT in the plant.,,for 4-5 years.
After 5 years: engineer: $-35,000; operator: $500,000
Coming out of college, that engineer won't be making 150k, he'll be making 50k, and working only 50-60 hrs/week, but steadily increasing pay and decreasing hours from there.
5 years after college:
engineer: $270,000; operator: $1,100,000
Next 5 years, engineer keeps getting promoted and getting more and more money, closing in on just 40 hours/week. Baw is still working 60 hrs/week and the occasional 7/12s.
10 years after college:
engineer: $942,000; baw: 1,600,000
The engineer is now bringing in more per year, working half the hours, and has far more vacation time. Over the next 5 years, he will surpass the baw in total money earned while still building retirement from the company.
20 years after college:
college: $3,357,000; baw: $2,500,000
It pays off, it just takes a while. However, if a baw was a very savvy investor, the time value of money could inable him to translate that early advantage into a huge financial windfall by investing in revenue producing assets. Nvm, let's just buy a $400,000 house, $30,000 boat, and a brand new chevy with the lift kit look a whole lot better wit u up in it while blasting a little Ol' Hank and a little T-Payne, just might make it rain.

I feel the opposite. I'm graduating next year and it's fricking depressing.

Just remember that all that you do in college will lead you to something. You will be glad you finished and the time spent will help you find your way. Most people have no clue what they actually want to do till their late 20s or early 30s anyway.
You may even end up changing your path after you are in a few years. Just take the ride and enjoy it.
Have fun and just let life happen.

That baw will also miss holidays, life events, and have to work nights/weekends/whatever. The money isn't equal no matter how you try to spin it.

You should go to the gym three days a week and eat paleo. You will forget your complaints.

Engineers in my unit work M-F and show up about 6 am and leave about 5.

So one more time since you keep dodging, do they work equal hours over the year?

Yup, 5-10s. Engineers work 50 hrs/week (most of the time), contractors work 60+

And take a 2 hour lunch at the bar.
Trust me, I go with them every day.

I felt stuck for 4 years until I graduated

I don't wanna just throw it away but it sure is hard not having much money
I had this problem too. You got to just tough it out. My last 2 years of college I didn't have TV, ate nothing but PB&J and ham sandwiches, and stole wifi from my neighbor. It made my arse get out of college ASAP. And it still took a few years after to be able to buy what I wanted. Living like that did take away a lot of fear when making decisions. Once you've done it, it's not as scary of a consequence when taking risks.

Dude for the 4th mothergoddamnfricking time. No, I'm not saying that. Again, stop and pay attention- engineers have a better schedule.

So the money isn't equal. One has to work much harder and give up much more to get it. Which was what you were arguing against.

Whatever, I'm tired of arguing this point with a cinder block. You're right.

I'm no expert on plant operators.
But using your math. You are saying plant operators come straight out of HS with no education or training and automatically make 100k?
Am I reading this correctly?
and what the Reality dude is saying is true.
150k=150k
Obviously the work required to make that 150k is different and the engineer will have more time to enjoy that money. But.. 150k is still 150k

It takes about 2 years to get to that pay realistically.

I'm trying to do a co-op as soon as possible.
Exactly, all my Engineering buddies I was jealous of because they were always flush with money from co-oping. Best situation for a college student, get paid like a salaried employee for half the year and blow it all when you're in school.
You are a lucky bastard and don't even know it
