Long time members here will remember some of my kid's cars. I always told him to use his imagination and we would figure out how to make it happen.

My favorite was the halo warthog we built.

I'm thinking the lightest and most immediate boost would come from the force of air. Picture a balloon letting it's air out all at once from the top of the ramp. It would fly

Yep, and after car gets inspected, super glue a dollar coin to the underside.

Y'all are some cheating mofos. We inspected the cars and put them up at the same time.

Kids were not allowed touch it again until their name was called to race.

Back when my kids were in cub scouts, they did the cars and stuff but anyone was allowed to enter the outlaw class.

Nobody ever had a shot because it seemed like every NASA Engineer had a kid in scouts and wanted to enter.

This was back in 1981. A much more innocent and trusting time. I was so proud of that gold medal I won. I like to think it was that experience that turned me into the underhanded snake in the grass that I am today.

I never won a single heat as a scout because my dad wasnt very mechanically inclined.

I vowed my 5yo would at least have a car that would win a couple races and damn if we didn't beat 90+ other cars and take home the trophy.

Yeah as a dad I recognize I overdid things but at 5 all he understood is *HE* won (with dad's help) and he will have that memory the rest of his life.

Oh my! My dad was not only a mechanical engineer, but he bequeathed upon me a quote that I draw inspiration from still to this day. It is:

"Son, win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat. If you are not cheating, then you are not trying!"
