Probably for the same reason you don’t bury your dead underground in LA.

That’s just a NOLA thing.

Primary underground lines are around $15 a foot for labor and material. Electric companies have 1000’s of miles of power lines.

We're less than 60 hours from landfall. I would think (and hope for us in LC) the track at the point is close. The current forecast is for the storm to pass east of Lafayette. A direct hit on Lake Charles would mean they were off by 100 miles 56 hours from landfall. That would be a big miss.

Serious question but when is the last time they missed that badly so close to landfall?

Based on the current track, I’ve decided to leave BR on account of a single damn tree.

We’re going to wait until tomorrow in case the track changes to more favorable for the BR area. I’ll stay if it looks like we’ll be skirted by the western eye wall, but I’m not riding out the eastern with this big fricker only 50 feet away from my house. It obviously survived Gustav (before I was here), but it’s not a chance I’m willing to take when I have safe place to stay.

The other trees around the house are a little concerning, but not nearly as much as this tall bastard (pick taken from back patio).

Although after a few days with the in-laws, I’d probably rather the tree.

Why does everyone think that they can predict the weather correctly 100% of the time? Different storms do different things... in a 2020 world where we want to be fed information constantly, sometimes the answers aren’t given to us when we want them.

Be patient. Be prepared.

I thought the predictions for Rita and Ike were missed. Ike was supposed to hit LC and Rita was supposed to hit Galveston. I may be remembering wrong.

Does anyone know the worst location of a tree relative to the house? I got a giant water oak and a willow oak east of the back of the house.

Are you evacuating again or staying? If it gets closer I might leave just because of the debris that'll be flying. Obviously if it's a direct hit like the euro shows I'm leaving.

Good question. They basically nailed Laura's track a week out. I would say it was before the technology is what it is now. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

I’m working until 2:30 on Friday. Will I be good to get out of BR by then or will that be too late?

Looks like pressure might be up a little bit more. A run of good news for the NE tip of the Yucatan.

Looks like Delta was a good bit weaker than expected at landfall. Models show favorable conditions ahead but Delta has to rebuild an inner core to take advantage of those conditions. Land interaction and sneaky shear could prevent this from really getting going in the Gulf, if those factors can delay core organization today.

The dude I follow on fb said that it should hit land around 1pm Friday. I was gonna leave Friday morning but damn maybe Thursday. What sucks is my kid has their first football game Thursday night and I would have to drive 3 hours to get to my parents in Texas after a game. Sigh.

Sally was supposed to hit Nola, landed in Mobile. That prediction changed like a day out.

This was discussed last time and there are a lot of valid reasons why in LA. One I remember is the huge transmission lines get really hot and no way to put those underground in the South.
the transmission lines are always going to be overhead, so much less resistance in open air than buried in conduits underground. It could be done in a more localized manner, but who is going to pay to have everyone’s house service to be converted from overhead to underground?
