I am pretty conservative and feel like most of DEI is ridiculous, but blaming every maintenance issue on it is silly. These airplanes run almost continually. Things break.

True. BUT when we know that airlines (and most other industries at this point) are actively promoting based on identity not talent/merit, then it’s inevitable that people blame DEI. Not only does DEI promote based on identity, but DEI is not cheap. Costs will have to be cut from somewhere in order to afford and expensive parasitic department.

Considering the goal of DEI is “anything but a straight white guy,” why would you sneer at this? Any white guy who supports DEI hates himself and his own white children, esp his white sons.

Safety is one of those areas that people claim to take seriously, but we all know how that goes.

Imagine you're the crew member that is always stopping the line because of every minor infraction. Won't take long before management finds a way to promote him/her out of the department. "Wow, you're so good at your job. Get the frick out of here"!

This stuff is more common that you think. Just think its getting more attention now for whatever reason.

Certainly there are a lot more instant sources of news these days, but this kind of stuff used to get reported even back when people read printed newspapers. Then too Internet news hasn't changed all that much over the last decade and prior to the last few years, there wasn't much of this kind of crap going on.

I always notice these kinds of things because my father was a leading aircraft accident investigator and safety expert.

From Utah all the way over to the Netherlands...that must be a pretty damn long flight.

This is dumb, you are 50 times more likely to die in a car accident than a commercial plane crash.

Important to note that, according to the linked story, this was an AirBus A330. Not Boeing this time.

That would tend to indicate a maintenance and inspection problem. Whether it is due to management cutting corners, sloppy oversight, bad personnel hiring practices (like DEI) or too few engineers and pilots running the place is not clear.

This stuff didnt get clicks back then. Now it does. Media pushes what gets them clicks and these days airline issues get clicks

That doesn't mean that I don't want planes to be as well built and well maintained as possible.

well of course we all want and expect that. But I was responding to someone that said they won’t fly and will only drive places.

Exactly. This is about cutting corners to cut costs and maximize profit. Something heavily known about with companies like Boeing more than a decade ago. It is cute a new buzzword can get thrown around, but it only delays looking for the actual problem. For airlines, it is reducing QA and safety standards and accountability.

DEI strikes again in the maintenance department, manufacturing or both?

Or maybe a white guy who has high, or lazy? Or maybe he was using tools that were held together with duct tape because corporate too cheap to buy new tools?

Or maybe the part was cheap Chinese crap that lasted 10% of expected life, or didn't fit properly?

All of those could be in play. Or a union could be protecting a worker who sleeps on the job.

My point is that it comes up every single time something goes wrong, regardless if it's true or not.
