A&M way out in front followed by Auburn before a big gap is about what I would expect.

That said, A&M is like 2.5x bigger than AU so not sure if that is accounted for

surprised at how far down we are, the faggies, way before they were in the SEC, and us were always neck and neck with commissionings, up until 1969-70? it was a requirement at LSU for all male freshmen to be in ROTC

Up until the 1969-70 time frame, if you went to an A&M school, two years of ROTC were mandatory unless you were a veteran...LSU had a larger Corps of Cadets than TAMU up until then. TAMU was also all male and a much smaller school back in those days.

As a former Army Officer, I can tell you that every one of the A&M officers that I served with were certifiably weird, every last one of them. Some were good officers, but weird. They have all have some sort of socialization issue,

Some West pointers were different too, but not all of them.

Surprised by LSU - seems like maybe they cut back on their ROTC program - I remember in the old days they would do the graduation on a football saturday on the parade grounds and it would take up the entire parade grounds.

The next list should show how many LTCs and above they have graduated.

That will tell a story.

It would be interesting to see where the heavy brass comes from.

Mid 90s LSU offered free room & board to scholarships ROTC cadets. That revitalized the ROTC programs and pulled in a lot of out of state talent. Not sure when they eneded it but that and TOPS really reduced the draw of ROTC at LSU.

If you earn a full ROTC scholarship there are other higher tier schools that make it a better value now.

When I visited the ROTC building a few years after graduation the decline was evident. Size of of the units its were down substantially and facilities had been allowed to deteriorate. It was clear LSU wasnt invested in the programs. I haven't been back in the building in many years, hopefully the online campaign among alumni a few years ago helped revitalize the facilities a bit.

Not from my experience, west pointers were the worst by miles and miles. Just socially awkward, never experienced college like most ppl do.

A&M is the designated "military college" for a state with over 20 million people. That's why. There's no VMI or Citadel, it's basically A&M and a few other programs at regional schools.

I believe they are building a new ROTC building now or soon. They also opened a nice museum dedicated to LSUs military heritage in the memorial tower earlier this year. It's worth a visit if you're on campus

At one time, the Corps of Cadets from A&M and LSU were both in the 4th Army District. A&M had the top cavalry unit in the district each year and wore the riding boots with silver spurs while LSU had the top rated cadet corps in the 4th Army District and wore a blue start signifying their excellence.

Unfortunately, times have changed, the 4Th Army has been deactivated, LSU no longer requires two years of ROTC for freshman and sophomore male students, and LSU has gone hard left insofar as maintaining a patriotic spirit among its student body. The ROTC requirement was dropped from LSU's curriculum when the federal government no longer required it of land grant/sea grant universities.

As much as I love The Ol' War Skule, she no longer lives up to the name, and a proud and honorable tradition has become lost and long since forgotten.

I'm a rare breed A&M guy that got commissioned but wasnt in the Corps of Cadets. I agree that virtually every Marine officer I know who was a Corps guy is weird. Most of them are pretty solid officers and good dudes, but they just lack that intangible "bro" aspect of their personalities. they're all a little robotic.

Well, that certainly explains some of their "traditions"
