I totally missed his passing a couple of weeks ago. That's what I get for relying on TD for my local news, but I guess it's also a reflection on the current TD demographics.

For those who don't know and for those who need their memories jogged, Allen McCarty was a TV fixture back in the day. He served as local host for the annual Jerry Lewis Telethon (most area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts were heavily involved) and I'm pretty sure he also portrayed late night tv's Dr. Shock. Not sure how many people remember, but Shock Theater aired on Saturday nights and usually featured famous horror movies. Dr Shock was the character that served as host before the movie, after commercials, and at the movie's end. New Orleans people may be familiar with Morgus the Magnificent, who served a similar role for the same concept in the New Orleans viewing area.

RIP Dr. Shock

I watched Shock Theater every Saturday night. The old The Fly, Invisible Man, etc. There was a time when the show would end, and you'd get the star spangled banner playing with a pic of a flag, then the screen goes to white snow. It was then bedtime. Good memories.

Great memories. Sure do miss the good old days. On the rare occasions that we were up late my dad would gather up me and my brother while the anthem played and we'd all take a knee and think about how racist cops are.
