Degree verification

Not sure if this is the right board, so please move if necessary. I have a candidate for an open position that seems to fit well with our team. The candidates degree is from ITT. Since they are no longer in business, how can I verify the degree without being able to contact the school? We are a small company without a proper HR department, but the owner insists on verifying the degree. TIA

Just roll the dice and see how he does. Who lies about an ITT degree?

Nobody is going to lie about having a degree from ITT

Any background check provider should be able to do it. My company uses DISA but they gear more toward background requirements for DOT....but they do normal stuff too.
The problem is they, and most, probably won't start a relationship with you for just a single education verification.

If they fit well with your team and can do the job why the hell does a degree from ITT or even Harvard matter?

Someone who flunked out of ITT.

The applicant can't provide his original certificate or diploma or whatever they call their coursework completion document?

Fair enough. That means that I have to sell that to the owner. He is old school and believes that his company's employees should all have degrees. I believe that is not necessarily true in the technology field.

DeVry University didn't have any qualified applicants?

Take a chance on him. You'll figure out pretty quickly if he full of shite or sincere.

Sounds like a lot of people fixing to get a Doctorate from ITT.

It's ITT. Who cares if they actually have the degree?

parchment is handling their records. They should be able to verify it.

Tell him to show you the $100k in student loan debt that he is carrying for his AAS diploma.

I believe that is not necessarily true in the technology field.

Parchment does carry their records from 2001 on. Thank you.

How old is your company's owner? I know 2 IT guys running their own businesses who pay themselves in the low six figures salary and run many expenses (vehicles, health insurance, fuel, food, office supplies, paper towels and toilet paper...) through their companies. Both are smart, competent and semi-hardworking; but neither has a college degree.

Just ask him to send in his transcripts
