Plus y'all already found out I work at the Oakdale pizza pit

I wanna say this... I am literally one of the only physicians this bill would likely have no effect on practice wise. So chill out on y'all's financial commentary. I'm in the business of patient safety here with a decade's worth of training and with dedication to patients and I wanna see Louisiana patients safe. The people benefitting financially from all this are likely the NPs and maybe the ones posting in support of the bill on this thread

NPs are simply loser nurses who are scared of actual medicine focused studies. Not to mention the didactic and clinical experience is double for PAs.

I cannot agree with the first statement there. Nurses are fantastic. But NPs should not be fully autonomous

The bill vote is Wednesday May 25 at 2pm. The NPs are trying to get their people out to it and are calling. Call your representative and urge them to vote No before Wednesday.

I'm not quite sure that letter is totally accurate. Optometry is not governed by the medical board and they can prescribe meds, diagnose, and treat pretty much any condition of the eye that an MD can treat. Yes, I know they can't treat cataracts, retina, etc. So, I guess it depends on what your definition of practicing medicine is.

From the article
It's basic economics. When prices are fixed by the government, there is no incentive to practice in underserved areas. NPs are not unique, they will follow human nature like everyone else. This is not a solution for the shortage of primary care providers in this country.

statistics reveal that NPs have been no more willing to go to an underserved area than physicians

I'd like to take you out for a beer sometime. Meet, up close and personal.

Retina might be like 1/2 of eye disease. Surely optometrists don't treat everything a medical doctor does?

I called my representative and urged him to vote YES!!!! He told me the buzz around is that it will pass. Sometimes I need a Dr but most of the time I just need a quick script from a NP, without the thousand dollar bill.

Damn, you mad.

I'm not for calling names on anybody. I do think everyone needs more education on this deal because what's being proposed it's very unwise. If you notice, the two most vocal people on here in opposition - neither of us are Louisiana primary care doctors. So quit questioning the motives - we are seriously interested in keeping patients safe and away from harm - and interested in doing what's right.
What's right is going to school and educating yourself. Ask your parents they could tell you that
