If you use common sense and caution, frying a turkey doesn't have to be more dangerous than anything else
15-20 years of frying turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas and we've never had any issues or close calls
my sentiments, exactly....
nothing comes close to fried turkey, done the old fashioned way, in oil... i feel like those that say the greaseless fryers are just as good, say that just to make themselves feel better about buying that shitty machine, for whatever price they paid for it.... but it is in no way, shape, or form, anything close to a true "fried" turkey...

What could possibly go wrong?

looks like a crawfish pot. I've always wanted to try one of those crawfish boiled turkeys.

Unfortunately, I do not have that arrangement at my parents. Rest assured when I cook at home, everything takes longer. Especially now that I have a TV on my back patio. Intimately familiar with that cooking technique

My fat arse read this as Deep Fried Turkey Fries.
I thought this was a new TG item.

After a 3 year hiatus, I pulled out the frying pot. I had forgot the most important part, SLOWLY lowering the turkey in the hot oil. I dropped the bird in, the oil boiled over the pot, and caught fire. All this happened in my garage. I immediately ran over and turned the bottle off. After the fire went out, I added oil and continued. The turkey was good, but I had one hell of mess to clean up. In my garage and in my pants.

how do you fry without grease?
You don't. All these people are essentially just roasting their turkeys, in a different sort of contraption.

We fried 9 the other day with 3 pots for a work function and had zero issues. As long as your oil levels are right and you go slow with a dryish bird shouldn't be any issues.

A good practice is to put the turkey in the pot and then fill it with water. Then remove the bird. That's the level of oil you need. All these youtube fails people fill the pot with oil having no idea how much oil they need, get the oil hot, then drop the bird in which displaces the oil over the top of the pot catching on fire.
Or you could always just turn off the fricking burner when you drop the bird, if it's too much, oil ladle some out. Easy as frick

I'm fairly certain it doesn't even meet the definition of frying if there is no oil or fat.

[quote]What else have you cooked with it, and turned out as good or better than a regular oven, etc?
whole chickens, ribs, pork butts, and even did a deer roast, all turned out great. Make sure you have a good tempt gauge because that's how you will know it's fully cooked.

You think ladling out hot oil after you drop the turkey in is easier than just measuring beforehand? Interesting

Very true; another thing to consider is to give yourself even more room as the oil not only bubbles and boils above its 'flat' level when you are measuring, it also EXPANDS a bit with the heat.
I always measure the liquid to JUST the very top of the bird (those are the end points of the drumsticks), JUST enough to cover it. Works like a charm.

Those of you bad mouthing air fryers have never tried one. Of course it isn't actually frying but who gives a shite, the texture and taste are spot on when done right.
Also, we don't fry a turkey on thanksgiving anyway.

Do you know much about water and oil? Submerging your turkey in water, then having to wait an ample amount of time for it to try afterwards is harder than using a spoon? Take a video of your cooking please, we need more educational videos of dumbshits.

isn't that really baking?
It's closer to broiling, really, when you think about it, what with the heating element glowing and whatnot.
It sure as hell isn't frying, though.

well whatever it is, it's not frying

Also, cut the fire while you put the bird in. Then relight.
I never thought of this.

Granted, I've never had a fire happen when frying a turkey, but this common sense step never once crossed my mind.
