Im unsure if it is a scam. How many spark plugs are required? How much work is required to change them? Do the turbos have to be removed? Electronics disassembled? How many quarts of oil? What kind of brake fluid? How much?
It's an open ended statment. Yes dealships are more expensive, that isn't a secret.

Once the car's warranty expires, the only reason it goes back to the dealer service department is for recall work.

I sued a service department at dealership before. Easy win. They claimed they did work they didn’t do and charged me for it. After I win in court they told me I’m never allowed back on property.

I’m not paying for changing the cabin air filter. That was on THEIR service list.

!st thing I'd want to see is a breakdown of those services with prices.
Even if the parts for each of those services runs $100 (and that is ridiculously high) each, they're claiming $1500+ in labor?

Car does have an extended warranty but I will not let them hold me hostage to high service work

They ground two and replaced two, and did a few other things.

Remember he is probably paying for the 40k mile service which is at least $425 base. They do stuff like 'grease door hinges' and 'inspect washer fluid'
Replacing spark plugs and brake fluid is probably recommended on top of that.
The mercedes 'a' service is $475 and every service visit starts with that.

$700 is still really high.
What area do you live in? If you live near New Orleans my friend has a shop in Belle Chasse and he’ll do it for a good price. He’ll also throw in a 2 year brake tag with no emissions test and if you have tint or anything that’s not a problem.

Way away from New Orleans
They had to replace a caliper and a leaking cylinder too.

Expensive cars are expensive to maintain...and it's worth it. You have an Indy you can bring it to?
For that little manual labor? C'mon. That's a ripoff of high order.

Welcome to the world of luxury German cars, high cost of routine maintenance is the reason my wife not longer drives a BMW.

IDK what kind of vehicle he has. If it's a $160,000 Panamera Turbo is $2k maintenance that high? My friends who have expensive boats pay a ton of money on upkeep.
On a C class, that bill is outrageous.

How bout a copy of the invoice so we can see what they are charging for parts, labor and amount of hours?

At that price I’m assuming you changed all 4 rotors.
Did you even grind the rotors down first or did you just go straight for the replacement? You can grind rotors down and they’ll basically function like new; you don’t need to replace them every time you think you need a brake job.
You don't "grind rotors down" you get them machined, or turned. But why would you? New rotors are not even made to be turned either, they are made so thin, to save weight, that machining them often reduces them to thinner than recommended specs. And you aren't saving much money anyway. Around here, it's about $25 to machine a rotor, plus the labor of having the rotor taken off the vehicle, unless you take it one of very few shops that have an on vehicle lathe, which is VERY expensive. Meanwhile you can buy new pads and rotors for say a Silverado for like $175 an axle, Tops.

Sopunds like you can't afford your fancy car. Add to that the fact you are taking it to the dealer shows how foolish you are.
Posted on 9/24/18 at 12:25 pm to HeyHeyHogsAllTheWay
You know what I meant by “grind”, saying “machining” is semantics.
Rotors are substantial enough on new vehicles that they can be put on a lathe once, sometimes twice, before needing to be replaced.
I don’t know what kind of shop you go to, but they’re gouging the hell out of you on labor costs. I’ve had all 4 tires and rotors removed, machined, and reassembled in less than an hour at a cost of about $50.
