If I recall correctly, they were actually sniping out of the trunk of their car. Everyone was talking about the white van, but I think I recall that the older dude had tricked out the trunk of the car. He would put the younger guy in there, back up, and that was how they stayed so under the radar.

Right make and model, wrong color. The Caprice was blue. They got busted sleeping in a rest area along the interstate. I don't remember the particulars, but a citizen called it in. One, or both, of them was sleeping on the ground outside the car.
I don't remember if they were looking for a blue sedan by then, or if it was just their strange behavior that led to the tip.

Pretty sure everyone had figured out the car and not long after they got the word out a trucker called them in while they were sleeping.

You are correct. Blue. I didn't Google it.
I was told they were sleeping in the car but that a passerby saw them inside it and thought it strange/called it in. At that point, I think they had narrowed down the description somewhat and everyone knew or was pretty sure it was them. I was told by someone that was there that another tactical team was first on scene and was told to standby so that FBI HRT could arrive and make the arrest. They watched them sleep from the woods for a while before FBI showed and "made the arrest." As I alluded to in my previous post, the couple of guys I know who were up there said that politics was really driving the situation by that point.

What I remember from it, was that everybody was convinced it was a white guy and were completely shocked when it turned out to be a black guy. Racial profiling.

And it doesn't mean it is not good police work (profiling) - it's just that sometimes it can hamper the investigation - particularly if the cops are closed minded about it. They had the DC snipers at one point and let them go because they were looking for a white guy. This particular string of crime is not normally committed by multiple offenders, because it is crazy. That's why Columbine was so unusual. 1 crazy person - while dangerous is manageable, generally. 2 crazy people really have the potential to cause more harm (Columbine, OKC) - 19 crazy people can start World War III - and so on.

Was in high school during it. Had football practice in the gym for what felt like two months.

I was at the Home Depot at around 7ish the night the woman was shot and killed there...shopped there all the time before the shooting, notsomuch after tho.
Funny/notsofunny about it was how much of a ghost town the hill was during the shootings. I worked IT for a company on Pennsylvania Avenue near the Supreme Court and was routinely there many late nights and the area was always busy b/c of Cap Lounge and a few other bars near there.
During the weeks of the shootings, it was incredibly spooky. I'd come out late and there would be no one, no cars, nothing, just the occasional tumbleweed rolling by. There was a car parked/abandoned for a few days in front of our office that the police destroyed trying to get into it b/c they thought that it might have something to do with the shootings.
I parked a few blocks from work and I had decided that if it was my time to go, there wasn't any amount of zig zagging i could do to avoid it. Thankfully God has seen fit to allow me a few more years.
Oh a side note, lived a few blocks from the Pentagon on 9/11, was getting ready for work, sitting on the bed watching TV and was knocked off the bed from the explosions.
DC was an interesting place to live for sure.

IMO the craziest part about it is his possible motive. They say that it was all a plot to kill his ex wife who was living in DC at the time and make it appear to be random.
