No you don’t, they just moved the goal post. The sunlight remains the same…
Daily duration of sunshine is not changed by DST, but there is an extra hour of sunlight at the end of each day as stated.

You people are so obtuse. You know damn well when people talk about more daylight at the end of the day, they mean because most people conform to business hours, company work schedules and school schedules. Employers and schools don’t alter work hours when we change times. So yes, there is more daylight at the end of the day. More time to play with your kids outside, more time to get landscaping projects done, other outdoor projects, etc. It baffles me, although it shouldn’t because this is the OT, how people can’t wrap their head around the benefits of more daylight after work and school.

It doesn't work in the winter months. Some places, the sunrise wouldn't be until 9am.

They tried it back in the 70's and people complained about their kids waiting for the school bus in the dark.

The U.S. tried permanent Daylight Saving Time in the 1970s — then quickly rejected it

quote:

However, America tried this before — and the country hated it. In the early 1970s, America was facing an energy crisis so the government tried an experiment. Congress passed a law to make Daylight Savings Time permanent year round, but just for two years. The thinking was more sunlight in the evening would reduce the nation's energy consumption.

It didn't work, said David Prerau, one of the nation's foremost experts on the issue.

"It became very unpopular very quickly," he told NPR.

Americans do not like changing their clocks, but they disliked even more going to work and school in the dark for months — the price the nation had to pay for more sunlight in winter evenings.

This proves that college professors aren't always the smartest in the room. The sunlight and darkness doesn't change..

quote:

Advocates for permanent Daylight Saving Time include Steve Calandrillo, a professor at the University of Washington law school. He testified before a recent House subcommittee that it would do everything from save lives to reduce crime, conserve energy, improve health, and boost the economy. His motto: "Darkness kills, sunshine saves."

I absolutely love the peace and quiet I have at my place. I get it. I’ve never noticed a significant uptick in noise/disruption after the time change.

Hell, with this logic, why limit it to 1 hour? Lets move the damn clock up 3 hours and really have time to get landscaping projects done, other outdoor projects, etc..

Why do you people put an “s” at the end of “saving”? It’s Daylight Saving Time.

I dated a girl from Vietnam a while back, she put an "s" on the end of everything.

One time she got us tickets to see Mark Chestnutts at the Houston Rodeo.

I have some and against all odds I can still hear yall.

People down here are just loud. I don’t know why. They walk into an empty room and start talking like they have to compete with a tractor. There’s no volume modification.
I can see getting mad if it's 10pm and dark, but you're talking about 8pm and the sun's out, people are going to live their lives.

If it's that big a problem for you, can't you change your living arrangements?

I live on 200 acres in the country. I don’t mind the shooting, popping, etc. what I mind is when my closest neighbor is 300 yards away and I can still hear their yells for close to an hour.

Why are you yelling? A one off yell? Sure, go for it. Yelling like you’re on a jet ski for an hour? I can’t even imagine what the people closer to them are thinking.

I won't ask how you live on 200 acres but your neighbor is still only 300 yards away.

I will say that 300 yards is still a pretty good distance, and if you can hear their yells at that range, inside your home, with ear plugs in, you may have a superpower.

Also I don't think your beef should so much be with DST as it should be with just your a-hole neighbor.

You should put this on the thread about things that bother you but not other people.

we also need to extend the length of spring and summer and shorten fall and winter.

I'm fine with spring but screw summer in the South.

I don’t see how you’re confused about how someone could be 3 football fields away from someone on 200 acres. Do you think our house is smack dab in the middle of the property?
I'm not confused about that, I just didn't see why stating the 200 acres was relevant if you didn't or couldn't utilize it to get far enough away from your neighbor.

Just forget this whole sidebar I guess. Maybe your time is better spent trying to get rid of DST rather than coming to terms with one rowdy neighbor.
