Day After Christmas - Worst Day of the Year?

Building on the topic about Christmas Day itself being a let down (once you get past opening presents) what about the day after Christmas?
As a kid I loved the day after Christmas because all the family obligations were done. My parents would be wiped out and it was a day where I would be able to spend the entire day finally being able to play with presents. This was especially awesome whenever I got a new game system or even just new console or PC (back in the day, yes dating myself) games to play.
As an adult though I feel like the day after Christmas is the worst of the year. It's the big come down. The last 2 months have been building for the day and it's over just like that.
What about you, do you think the day after Christmas is the worst day of the year?

Not when it's a Saturday. The Thursday, Friday setup is the best.

Day after Christmas I’m in a deer stand, so no.

Why are you acting like President's Day isn't a thing?

Very true. I hate that Covid-19 struck this year because it screwed up so many good holidays. Halloween was on a Saturday and like you said the Thursday/Friday setup for Christmas is probably the best as well.
Unfortunately I'm laid off. In my now former job we only got Christmas Day itself off unless you had been with the company forever. Same with New Year's Day. This year would've been absolutely perfect as I would've had the Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination for Christmas and New Year's.

I always enjoyed it because we didn’t hunt/fish on Christmas. Was always able to spend time with family/friends out doors the day after and usually got together at night for dinner and card/board games.

Friend,
Walmart opens at 7 tomorrow with some great after Christmas sales (50%). Lots of lights and tins of popcorn.

Very sorry to hear that. Wishing you the best of luck in 2021 bud.

I like my family but the holidays get tiresome bc my family lives 30 minutes away and my in laws live 3 hours away so we're always driving all over the place. Tomorrow for me will be awesome bc the family obligations are over and I can just chill out and relax

It's like after fapping to porn. Emptiness and regret.

Christmas Day itself being a let down
You people are mostly healthy, have spouses, kids, living parents and in-laws, money in the bank, plenty of food, beautiful homes and vehicles, and you’re bitching about being blessed.

The day after Christmas isn't full blown shame and thinking you're better than this for me

You feel this way because you don’t celebrate Christmas for the right reason. It’s as plain as day. Read your OP for your answer.

Thank you. I know there's many others like me who have been laid off and honestly I'm in better shape than most. My company gave us a 60 day notice of the layoff (we had been furloughed before that) and paid us the entire time even though we weren't working. My company didn't go under entirely but my entire division (over 50 people) was eliminated. I had been with the company for 10 1/2 years so I got 10 weeks of severance pay and my insurance is good until the end of February (I just have to pay the premium directly).
My layoff took effect December 6th. Just went back in to the unemployment site for my state to claim the last 2 weeks. Honestly it's still kind of surreal. I've been trying to not think about it, just focusing on my family and being home for the holidays for the first time in 6 years.
In some ways it hasn't hit me yet but yeah I essentially gave myself the holidays off and come January the job search will begin. That's probably when it will hit me big time. I've never been laid off before so it's definitely a new experience for me. Hoping I get back on my feet fairly quickly.

What industry and location if you don't mind me asking?
Posted on 12/25/20 at 6:19 pm to fallguy_1978
Travel/Leisure in Florida. Obviously an industry that has been absolutely crushed with the virus.
My background is mostly in HR though I don't have a huge passion for HR (it's what I majored in back in college before I truly knew what I wanted to do). My current position was a Transportation type position.
Most likely I'm guessing I'll try to find an HR/Employee Relations/Benefits/Recruiting type job. Part of me has considered if it's time for a career change but I feel like I need to get back on my feet first.

Gotcha. Partly curious and also wondering if I could possibly help you out if you were around here.
Florida's economy will come roaring back soon man.
