yep, lower cost is where it's at. Wife and I took a King Air 350 to the islands instead of the Challenger 300. Got to save up

Weddings are just crazy expensive.
I know people with a regular middle class job who saved for years and spent 80-100k on their daughter's wedding. You can go to Harvard for two years for that much. It's ridiculous. Wedding and funeral industries need a beat down.

I mentioned to a family member that my daughter had a budget (I set) for her upcoming wedding. They never batted an eye and dead serious responded with "just get a loan". I don't have a loan on my house or car. No way am I financing a one day party!!

second-hand wedding dress

I could have sold you the one my wife wore if I had known you were ok with a marrying someone in sex stained outfit.

Isn't David's Bridal where you go to get a dress without an insane price tag?

Yeah, I’m sure they have some nicer dresses but David’s Bridal is like the Jared of wedding dress stores. Massive national chain with mostly affordable dresses. Their intended customer is not the old money New Orleans girl or something.

But I do think most in here are right. The wealthy will continue to have big weddings, as they should because they can afford them. It should have never been “normal” for lower income people to be having huge expensive weddings. It’s crazy to think of some of the weddings I went to as a kid, now that I’m older and know their families were never wealthy.

My wife bought a second-hand wedding dress for like $125

My wife did the same thing. She got the David’s bridal dress she wanted off of E-bay for about $125 or so. We spent more on the honeymoon than the wedding. We were in college at the time and didn’t have much money, but our wedding was much nicer than many of our friends who had “blow out” weddings where they spent thousands and thousands of dollars.

Exactly. David's Bridal and stores like it are the biggest scam since the pharmaceutical industry

People getting married opt for smaller, less expensive weddings but nicer honeymoons these days.

If you believe that just try to rent one of the nicer reception venues in New Orleans, Austin, Houston , Etc.

I went to two such weddings this year, and FWIW you could go to Harvard for 4 years and grad school for that amount of money, 70% of Harvard students pay less than $12K per year.
