Dave Ramsey rant against time share corruption

Had no idea timeshare companies were this ruthless that even politicians would go to bat for them.

I will never understand wanting to get in a time share with all the horror stories.

Time shares have had a shite reputation since at least the 1970s. Anyone that buys in deserves what they get.

The only timeshare I've ever heard anything positive about is the Disney Vacation Club and I think they structure it way differently than the traditional ones. And they have Disney properties all over the place not just the theme parks.

Funny you should post this. I was just listening to his rant on the way to work this morning.

This is stupid. Most people are really bad with money. If more people took his advice the country would be far better off.

If you're someone who already knows how to save and has self-control then of course his advice has no use.

My post is stupid? Look at your post above. Self made wealth isn’t accomplished by putting your pennies in a low yield savings account and being completely adverse to taking on debt.

my wife and i got the sales pitch on our honeymoon last year on our disney cruise. from what i remember, you pay for it like you're paying for a house. closing costs and a monthly or yearly payment with options to rent it out when you're not using it. the only thing is, you don't really "own" it because it expires after 70 years or so and you can only will it to someone once if you die. if the person you willed it to dies, that's the end. we established it wasn't worth it, but staying anywhere at any Disney Resort was appealing. glad we didn't do it. much cheaper to just rent the resort once every 5 years or so.

This is correct. You buy "points", not weeks. I owned a bunch, years ago when my kid was little and we went to Disney twice a year. Then they opened their Hawaii location. Took 3 trips there using the points for a two bedroom villa. Ended up selling them for more than I paid.

I don't think you understand Dave Ramsey at all. You need to listen to the calls he gets.

I'm guessing everyone you know makes a good living, is college educated, little debt. Maybe to those people it sounds ridiculous.

Almost everyone that seeks out his advice has bad debt or bad spending habits. His advice for that is pretty foolproof. You really underestimate how bad the average person is with money.

Are there any time share success stories out there? Anyone here own one or know if any? I’m generally curious, all I ever hear is “time shares bad” but somehow they are still around so something must be generally right/good

His entire shtick is based upon debt being a negative no matter what. That people should pay cash for junker cars and pay off their mortgage as quickly as possible. Paying off revolving debt is great, but his take on debt when it comes to real estate is ridiculous.

I'm not a Disney dolt, you dolt. I don't own the Disney Vacation Club. I'm just saying it's the only timeshare I've ever heard positive things about. Go pound sand.
