I don't see how the fact pattern in this case could stand a chance of fitting that definition

Agreed.

My read on the judge is she well may have been the more lenient option. Given she gave the manslaughter instruction to the jury over defense objection leads me to believe this.

Plus juries seem to like zeros and fives at the end of a sentence so if they don't like 5 it is usually 10 etc. Judges are perfectly comfortable giving any number up to 20 then they tend to work by the fives.

Man, I've already got a government guy and a business guy, but if I ever need a criminal guy, you're in.

Just make sure you commit your crimes in NC, SC or GA. All I know about LA law is in law school almost constantly I would hear "in 49 states...". Louisiana was always the one-off thanks to Napolean.

It’s absurd that there is a gap in punishment for the same crime, let alone 94 years,

The judge handed Defense Attorney Robert Rogers a sheet of paper, which he is now reviewing, and the judge has stepped back out of the courtroom.

Wow. That is very light. I was expecting 20 years minimum.

It reflects the fact that the murder charge is VERY wide-ranging and covers crimes that are often broken down more in other jurisdictions.

On murder in TX you have to serve 50% before a chance at parole.
