re: Cutting off a boot in NOLA?

I know with the big boots, if you had a German car with lug studs instead of nuts you could get the boot off, I saw that on t.v.. the new boots nola uses don't cover your lugs, but they use two. Carry two spare tires and you are good to go.

A guy I know who got a delinquent notice for a ticket in the mail. It said he was parked on Magazine in a no parking zone. It gave the date the ticket was issued.

Only problem was that his car had gotten seriously damaged two days before that date and had to be towed to the dealership body shop because the car could not roll because of the damage. He got a notarized letter from the body shop, his insurance company, pictures of the car, and the police report from the accident. He went to the parking bureau office and raised hell.

They apologized and said it was a mistake that somehow happened. They gave him a letter that said that he didn't owe for the ticket, etc.

He's an attorney, and he was so passed that he accused them of running a scam and sending out bogus tickets hoping people would just pay them instead of going through the trouble of fighting them. He told them that he was thinking about putting a notice in the newspaper looking for other people that this had happened to and filing a class action suit against the company that runs the parking enforcement.

Just saying, that's a red flag if you get pulled over. It's a sign the plate prbabaly doesn't match the vehicle and you can be fined for it. When my windshield was replaced the glue oozed and covered mine a little and I got a written warning to get it fixed when I was stopped in Lake Charles

I had several "red light" tickets on St. Charles when I was in school down there that got mailed to my permanent address. My mom didn't tell me about them until after they had already gotten to over a grand total. I wasn't paying that.

I ended up just grabbing a leaf, a reese's Peanut butter cup wrapper or whatever was around and put it in my license plate holder to cover up a number on the plate. Worked flawlessly. The van can't pick up the plates.

I wouldn't recommend testing your luck at a timed meter, because those meter maids will eventually get you. But the leaf tactic worked for months down there and there wasn't a single issue. Way better than trying to remove a boot.

Interesting. I lived there for another five months or so without issue. Have the same car now, same plates, been back 30 times and not an issue at all.

I guess I could have gotten lucky, but I don't see how they could have registered all the info needed to send the ticket to you. That sucks though.
