I have a friend that spent a bundle on a 3dtv a few years back. I realized right away that it was a total waste of money but he sure was proud of that thing. I wonder if he even uses the glasses anymore. I couldnt imagine sitting on the couch with my gf watching a movie with those frickers on...

For a while, the majority of mid to upper tier panels supported 3D but fewer and fewer low to mid-range planels and PJs are supporting 3D. This will all change if/when passive 3D becomes ready for prime time. I occasionally watch something in 3D but it is rare, I am shopping for a new projector over the next 4-5 months and 3D is not even on my list of "nice to haves" but I may end up with the capability just by chance.

What size does an 8k tv have to be for it to be noticeably different?

How is anyone missing out by not having 8K? 4K media is just now starting to become common and it's been what at least 4 years since 4K tvs became "mainstream" how long before there is any 8K media out there?
also, at some point the human eye becomes the limiting factor, It doesn't matter if a TV can produce 64K images if the human eye can only see a small percentage of that.
Here's a handy spreadsheet you can fill in numbers and see exactly at which point you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between HD and 4K

You sound like the guy who was telling me that the $500 difference between the 2 Sony 4K tv’s i was looking at was that the more expensive one had 2 million more colors.
Told me i didn’t want to buy an obsolete 4K TV at a time when 1080 is still the predominant format

Not to mention, who the hell can even see 3M colors lol
I haven't even upgraded to 4K tvs yet, and really have no intention to until I have a TV that just stops working and I can buy one for little to no more than a 1080 TV
I don't think I'm missing much, if anything.

I can tell the difference, slightly. I had to buy a bigger tv for new house
