Naive? No. But I might have been just slightly inebriated when I posted this.

And I didn’t go to Vietnam to “hook up” and these were not sex workers. I did not have sex with them. In some parts of town you can’t walk 50 feet without being approached for a massage. But these two were different (because insanely hot) so I said why the f not? It was a fun/funny experience, which I wanted to share with my very dear friends of the OT

Ive only been to ho chin minh city but vietnam was awesome. That city is bustling, business everywhere. I love cities that have tons of street vendors. Our cities in america are overrun with homeless, addicts, and ghetto trash.

For real. Going to SEA / Japan, then coming back to the states.. it’s almost depressing. There’s no fats over there and almost no stupid people. They’re industrious, kind and charming.

The craziest thing is how mopeds run the streets. Like, you’re better off on a moped than in a car. It’s like the Tokyo train stations, but more chaotic. They just make it work. No way that would work in the US because of idiots and dumbasses.

No, it’s like a dance club but very limited access, you buy bottles and all they have is the stupid-expensive shite and they have - I don’t know what you call them, escorts? Not hookers, just beautiful ladies dressed in traditional Vietnamese attire and they basically dote on you. Kinda like Geisha in Japan, I think. I’ll catch shite for this I’m sure, but although the overall experience was awesome, that part was awkward for me. There are no actual female patrons, just these women providing very sweet but inorganic attention. My friend loves it and he’s buying, so…

So what exactly are you bragging about? That you had a great waitress in a club?

You know that moment on a trip or vacation when it hits you that you are experiencing something new and the weight of the world is no longer on your shoulders? I was in that frame of mind when I posted, guess to some it came across douchey or "sad"

no regrets, sorry for partying

Getting caught up on expense reports in Haneda (9 hour layover, ugh) and read through the entire comments. Holy shite, the losers & haters.

OP is celebrating two 19 year olds who only paid attention to him in hopes of getting some money. It's just gross IMO.

Quoting you Stout because you're one of, if not my #1 favorite OT poster. Not sex workers. A funny situation. No sex was had. I joked with them because I don't like massages but they called me on my joke. I had time, so why not? I would have given them the whole 20 effing dollars if they had just simply asked for it. I ain't paying for sex and that's not why I was there.

quote:

Hands down, safest big city I've ever been in. There are 20 million people there. It's unbelievable.

DrDenim, that's 100%. I didn't know what to expect but I never felt unsafe even when the mopeds were overtaking intersections. Crazy! BTW they are still celebrating new years.

quote:

I’m sure those young sex workers felt just as invigorated playing with your old, humid induced, sweaty balls.

this thread is sad as shite

Ed Osteen your face is sad as shite.

LSUpimp this really hit home but with a Latina, not a Vietnamese. I can visualize it, and at that point you start really questioning all of your decisions.

I was there during Tet last year.

After witnessing the Ho Chi Minh City motor scooter pilots in action I want to nominate them for overtaking the driver training in the states. The lack of ego, mutual respect, and adherence to what I assume must be pretty strict helmet laws are to be respected and celebrated. Zero road rage. The people of that city live right. Shows you what is possible when everyone is considerate of their fellow citizens.

One night I went on a "Motorcycle Night Tour" and I got to wear a real snazzy Hello Kitty helmet while sitting bitch on a moped, and the dude took us all the way down the Bui Vien walking street at about midnight. For those that don't know, Bui Vien at midnight is like Bourbon Street, there are no cars, but unofficially, motorcycles are allowed everywhere in Saigon/HCMC, so there's a street full of humans packed shoulder to shoulder, bars up and down each side of the street, bad music blaring out of every business, and me on the back of a moped just crawling though the crowd and they all seemed to not notice or care at all. I never put my feet down, the driver never picked his feet all the way up. It was badass. I felt like Pharoah.

All Hail the Honda AirBlade!

This is true.. again, im no expert- but everything ive heard from other expats is that you should never, ever under any circumstances bring a young wife from another country back to the US to live.. to visit, sure that’s fine.. but if you bring them back to live, they will eventually start talking to other women and they will become ‘Americanized’… they will be a hot commodity here, unlike where they are from where they are dime a dozen.. same principle applies to why normal white guys are way more prized in foreign countries than in America… i dont make the rules .

Hasn’t been my experience but maybe my wife just does a really good job of fooling me.

Kept looking for anyone w/out a helmet. I only saw a couple little ones w/out a helmet but who knew you could fit a small family on a moped. They're not going over 15 mph though so I didn't judge.

To your point: it didn't take long to realize the cars are honking to inform the bikes where they're planning to go. It really was amazing. All that pure and absolute chaos, and zero incidents. My friends told me when crossing the street, whatever you do just don't stop - they will work around you. And it was true. That was the most impressive things I've seen in a long time.

Motorscooter safety in Saigon is #1....Style is optional.

Yes, a family of 5 can ride on the same 115cc motorscooter for a grocery store run, that 2 year old can hold on to the bag of carrots just fine. No Yukon XLs are required here(of course, the Vietnamese are not "Yukon XL" sized people either)

I compare horn honking from autos and mopeds/scooters to bats using sounds to echo-locate themselves in their environment and amongst other bats. It's true about street crossings, just go, dive into the sea of bikes, don't move fast or dart around, just walk deliberately. They have brakes and handlebars to steer. Scooter traffic there flows like water, it finds the path of least resistance and moves forward (sometimes that path to least resistance is what we call the sidewalk). They don't drive fast but they don't stop much either. Speed is described as a slow crawl up to basic "slow" and then up to "kinda quick" and always "beep beep beep beep" around intersections and turns just so everybody is aware of their presence. I have a lot of respect for how they move around their town.

I once saw a guy in Africa balancing a small refrigerator on top his head while riding on back of a motorcycle taxi.

Not often unfortunately, but a few months ago I flew for about a mile at around 100 mph over the rainforest in Costa Rica, among other adventures, and that was inexplicable.
