This could also apply to police officers going to the civilian world

It took me about a year, a few civilian team building seminars and good employees not afraid to talk to me about my military commanding instead of management team leading.

I was not a REMF or POG... that being said, the subtle classy way is to have a simple USAA bumper sticker... LOL!

Don't put the military in a pedistal. Use your relevant experience and improve yourself rather than acting like serving in the military makes you a god.

thats why you join the air force dummy. no transition at all
. sat at a desk in the air force now i sit at a desk in the civilian world

I love it bro! I too miss those days.

Civilians are much less cynical and foul mouthed but also get overwhelmed easier by problems.
In the military every day is fricked up so you get used to just finding a way to get things done. Good skill to have.

Contractors and CIA backed mercenaries.

Not when they can get infantrymen for 30k a year and contractors cost 100k +.

Actually cheaper to use contractors.
Pay a contractor for three years in Iraq = $300k. Done.
Pay a grunt for three years in Iraq = $120k on the front end and then a lifetime of medical and retirement entitlements.
If you don't beleive me google the rise in servicemembers getting deployment related disability payments and medical coverage.

We banged up, baw...
Moving millions of tons of equipment in and out of deserts wearing tons of gear will wear your arse out...
Heck, just putting up or tearing down a tent city in 110 will pinch a couple fingers, dozen heat strokes, and a broken foot or two.

I still work in defense contracting so when I slip up it's usually okay.
