Looks like you SHOULD be mad at the government, not this dude just trying to make a living.

This young man is coming to the realization that there are two ways to make a living…either you use your head, or you use your back. Every one of us just has to decide.

“Maybe nursing or some other estrogen filled career is for you”

I trained as a heavy equipment operator in the Navy.I thought that would be a good career.
When I got out I got a job running a earthmover,2 weeks in I said frick this I’ve got the G.I. Bill,I went to nursing school.
Running heavy equipment in civilian life different than Navy.Navy wasn’t trying to make a profit.
Boring as hell,I started in summer so it was hot, machine was loud, only days off was if it was raining.

I enjoyed nursing, not every day of course, but overall I did.
I worked ICU but there are a lot of other jobs one can do-E.R,surgery,cath lab, dialysis, heart failure clinic,walk-in clinics, prison nursing.Alien transport back to their countries always looking for nurses. Then there is going back for anesthesia or nurse practitioner .

Some of the older nurses, are mean when you start out and don’t know much but if you work hard ,apply yourself, step up to help out your co-workers when they need it(especially without them asking).New nurses that are lazy, unmotivated, just there for the paycheck don’t fare well and will often get run off.
There are bad points, and good points, like all other jobs.
You can generally get all the overtime you want and the weather is always nice in a hospital or clinic.

I still kinda like heavy equipment,I’ve got 3 tractors-1 with bushhog,1 FEL with box blade and 1 with a grapple for working around my property.
Scratches that itch.

The vast majority of fields you named already involve a year or more of internships that co-occur with college. People aren't starting corporate marketing jobs or in private agencies right out of college without significant time working in a business.

That’s what I’m talking about. I know in our marketing dept we always keep a crop of apprentices. And I talk to the marketing director regularly. One thing he tells me is that in almost every case, they have to first unteach the new ones what they learned in college and then start training them on how we want things done. In essence, all the time and money they spent on college was wasted. They’re even taking apprentices right out of high school now for that very reason.

TLDR for those who don't want to watch

Thanks…. I didn’t feel like wasting 15 minutes hearing a bitch cry about starting at the bottom.

I can only go off my accounts with ‘new’ or ‘apprentices’.

The owners take all of the risk so that is why they make more money…… ole baw should shut the frick up….learn the trade and start his own company. He is probably too lazy or incompetent to do that so he expects everyone to make all the money.

Some of our safety standards are actually not safe. They are put in place by people who have never actually done the job. We are actually praying that one of our new guys gets hurt using one because all he does is complain about ‘not using protocol’. We have tried explaining to him why certain things are actually not safe but he would rather believe the guy who sits behind the desk.

We have a kid who recently graduated from a trade school and knows absolutely nothing. NOTHING. He complained to me about his pay before he even got his first paycheck. I asked him if they told him in the interview what his starting salary would be and he said yes. I told him to either shut the frick up about it or go work at Amazon.

Most of the young/new people feel entitled to. They deserve the shite that they get. They have no skin in the game and don’t know shite. They need to learn the trade and make it to where they are more attractive to their current employer or to a rival company.

They don’t deserve more money out of the gate. To think otherwise is ignorant.

No one will admit this but blue collar work environments are nasty and total shite...and not necessarily in terms of physical state but more in terms of garbage conversations, disgusting topics, rude, lack of professionalism. Youre around ex-cons, drug addicts, etc. And not the reflective humble ex-con or drug addict, but the ex-con who still thinks he was done wrong or the drug addict who brags about passing drug tests. You're constantly surrounded by the dregs of society that have never sat down for a moment and evaluated themselves and/or why their lives are constant dysfunction.

There’s no way this is true because I have it on good authority that all tradesmen are millionaires

Apprenticeship should not just be for the trades fields. For the vast majority of careers, college has become a huge waste of time and money. A lot of what kids learn there is useless in the real world of their chosen field and they go into their careers with little idea how to actually do their jobs.

Really, unless going into a specialized field such as engineering, healthcare, law and a few others, an apprenticeship would serve young people far better. This is especially true in fields like marketing and business. Even young people wanting to go into fields like accounting and computer sciences would come out ahead by doing an apprenticeship instead of college.

This is something stupid people say because they don’t understand the value of classical education and the ability to be able to think

This is a belief I have held for a while, that nobody, even those who would do well to be an apprentice, would go into an apprenticeship if they had other options because they know they will have to deal with pissed off journeyman who couldn't do anything else.

Now I admittedly didn't watch the video but by education did he (and or you) mean like a 4 year degree or 'trade school' education. My response was to someone who went to trade school rather than a university.

He should start his own business, personally pour years of 80 hour weeks into it for no profit, then once somewhat profitable give all that profit to a lazy 20 year old fresh out of trade school.

I don't think nursing would suit him.
That is a pretty thankless shitty job for the most part.

Ask your buddy if he'd prefer to subsidize them for 3-4 years to get them to the point where he can even "re-train" them.

They are taking "marketing apprentices" right out of HS, and not making them also go to college? What company is this? Sounds like they're hiring teen influencers.

You don’t even know the right industry term.

First off, if you’re racing to the bottom you won’t have a job.
I’ve gone to college, military, college while in the military and completed a apprenticeship and I can tell you
1 college isn’t for everyone. Doesn’t matter how smart you are, if you have no interest in the subject matter it will be miserable.
2. Military…. Plenty of people skate by in the military. They do the bare minimum to get through the day. Even on deployment, you have guys just collecting a pay check. Some go the extra mile to learn and be better.
3. Apprenticeships put a lot on the job training. If you don’t apply yourself and strive to learn people won’t help you. It’s all about effort you put in. Goes for all 3.

Ignore the grammar it’s hot typing this.
I hate when people tell one side without telling the full story.

^^^ This...I've been an architect for 30+ years and worked construction all through college. Back when I was working summers in school, my foreman told me who it was OK to talk with and who to avoid. He said stay away from the concrete guys and roofers, they're all addicts and ex-cons because that's all they can get to do that work. I kept my mouth shut and worked hard. The skilled trades on the site took some time to show "college boy" some cool things. The low-level guys got whiney when they let me do some minor wiring or wall framing...but I hadn't burned my brain out on roof adhesive or meth and I wasn't bitching, whining, or showing up late with domestic drama. I did learn that everything and anything you say will be gossiped thru the whole jobsite faster than high school girls can do it.

These days generally speaking, I can talk directly with the foreman of the MPE and millwork subs. These guys are smart and I listen when they talk to me. Their trades usually don't tolerate slap dicks, addicts, or criminals. Any other trade, I usually don't bother because of what is quoted above.

For every tradesman that is very successful being a tradesman, there are probably 10 average blue collar guys. Most people that do well in the trades end up being a business owner, just think about how many plumbing, electrical, hvac, etc businesses any town has and someone in the owner.

I can't tell you how many outstanding journeymen I have watched go into the crapper of life. They simply can't escape the lifestyle and take those simple steps to being a professional, so they never make it past a foreman position, of they make it that far. It's almost like they can't figure out that their backs will break before their brain, and eventually, they just get old and they can't handle the physical demands

Mostly it is drinking and women that ruin them, but lately its drugs too.
