It's amazing that despite having such horrible recent leaders (Blanco, Nagin, Piyush the Tandori Taster, Mitch, Edwards the Femme) Louisiana and New Orleans continue to thrive in many respects.

Such as violent crime. Few places can touch New Orleans in that respect.
I'm sure that will stop now that the statues came down.

It really is incredible how many incompetent people get elected in Louisiana. I'm really behind the idea of Torres running for mayor because I think he could be different, but it's hard to believe in anyone at this point.

New Orleans is the goofball uncle or quirky best friend that we all have. You wanna love them for who / what they are...yet, there are so many times when you just want to pull them aside, slap them into oblivion and say, "would you please get your shite together, dammit?"

Does anyone have any statistics that show what percentage of violent crime in Nola is committed against African Americans? Just curious

I doubt he's an insider, so he'll have a lot of trouble as the Old Regulars will fight him tooth and nail; especially with at least three 7th Ward heavy hitters already qualified, a Morel, a Bagneris, and a Charbonnet.
