The crepe myrtles would look great if you just trimmed them down to about half their current height to allow them to fill in and perhaps planted some ornamental grasses around them and along the road to create a barrier between the road and your property. Crepe myrtles bloom in the late spring to early summer and will look great.

Why would anyone cut shade trees down. Just plant Bermuda grass under the trees or landscape around the trees with more ornamental grasses and ground cover plants.

The key to making grass grow is water. Just simply water your lawn every day, bruh.

Crepe myrtles are a generational thing. I am convinced. I am in my 30s and have had them removed from 3 different houses. You don't see young people put them in when they have their landscaping re-done. They look grandmother-ish, require constant maintenance, grow out in all directions instead of up, and for some reason people always plant them right up next to a house so they grow up under the eaves, mess with the shingles, and rub up against the house. Keep the oak for sure. Have the limbs cut off if they overhang your house though and have someone thin the sub-canopy.

I have a house from 1940 and after we moved in we had the oak limbs that were over the roof removed, had the magnolia that was hanging down to the ground by the road and blocking the view of the house limbed-up and had the dead limbs cut out of it, had the monkey grass areas removed and replaced with sod, and took out all of the crepe myrtles. Result - night and day difference. Now it is attractive, airy, there's light, and doesn't look like a grandmother lives here with a rat problem.

Yeah, not sure what previous owner was thinking there. If he was going for privacy that are plenty of others to chose from. If it was just for decoration that a row of Boxwoods would have been a better choice.

Well I'm in my 30's and have planted 5 of them throughout my yard. Granted they are a the larger species. I did it to shade certain portions of my house along with have something that looks nice when it blooms..

Crepe myrtle, indian hawthorn and knock out roses are my go to base plants for large bedding..

I really like crepe myrtles, but the ones you have don't seem to be in great shape or well placed. What color are they?
