Crepe Myrtles in front of my house

I bought my house a few years ago, older neighborhood, built in 1948.
The previous owner for some reason planted crepe myrtles along the street. Thinking of taking them out and sodding to the edge of the road. Also have talked to DOT and they will take out the tree I have marked as #1.
The crepe myrtles look a heck of a lot better than when I bought the house, but still....do I want trees in front of my house? The oak tree provides a nice canopy over the road, but I can't get grass under it...should I take it out?

Do what you need to do. We don't care.

You could surround the base of the Oak in Monkey grass..

Those are crappy crepe myrtles. Crappy placement and crappy pruning.

Those smaller ones look out of place and cheapen your house a bit. I wouldn't hesitate to remove them.

I'm personally more of a fan of Pancake Myrtles.

I have pruned them and they look a lot better now, but I agree.
I am not on a main road that needs some protection.

I've been cutting a lot of my oaks bc of the grass issues and also bc I'm tired of cutting around them. I've had a few large and several small oaks.
What color blooms do the crepe myrtles have? They definitely need to be thinned. White cm's develop into nice umbrella shapes, provide shade, but don't kill the grass
pink and red cm's have very nice blooms. Pinks look better when kept semi small but reds look better when kept at medium size.

If you decide to keep them, I would take out every other one.

If you do take that big tree out, you probably still won't get enough sun light (depends) to properly grow them. Plus your yard isn't that big, so it would be best to just sod it up. Although, you may be able to put them in the back yard or something.
Crepe Myrtles are bad arse and they are very abundant where I live. In fact I just saw a guy the other day trying to cut grass under one with his riding mower.
Dude got trapped under the limb and his mower kept going. He was getting pushed back in his seat, but I was already driving by and didn't see how it played out.

This was from last spring, the ones on the left don't grow as well bc of shade
