actually a great idea. Some less than scrupulous waiters have changed tips before, especially when the customer doesn't fill in the total.

everytime I pick up food I leave a dollar, Company Burger, Subway, Smoothie King, wherever. A dollar isn't going to kill me.
Even if it's a dollar a day every day it's only $365 and that isn't much in the scheme of things, but that dollar may be a help to someone working a $7hr job.

And I understand that experiment - but, my practice if I'm tipping cash or taking a takeout order is to just line that out and carry out the full total at the bottom - just so there's not confusion in the transaction.
Mrs. Midnight laughs when I fill out my copy of the receipt, to include signature, exactly the same as the restaurant's receipt. "How else am I going to know what happened later?"

My dad and wife are notorious for leaving crazy tips if they like someone. What's weird about it is the credit card company, my wife and I use the same cards as my parents, has never once checked to make sure it was legit. However, two or three times the restaurant refused to close the transaction because they thought it was a prank

Yep. Same here. But. thing is my fave watering holes/bartenders charge me for about half the shite I drink, so I tip more. $15 tab and I'll tip $15. Ding Ding. Email!!

Whenever I pay with a credit or debit card, I always mark through the tip section and leave a cash tip instead. It makes me feel more secure about the transaction and I'd like to think that the lack of a paper trail makes it easier for the waiter to not report the tip. This may be faulty reasoning, but it seems like a cash tip is worth more than an equivalent credit card tip.

I always draw a line when no tip and make sure to put a nice big dollar sign when tipping. I've never had an issue with tipping fraud this way.

Same thing happened to me in the Fenway Park club level. Chick taking orders in the seating area changed it to a $30 tip on a $20 bill. I'm in the process of contesting right now.
