Every year something causes an issue with crawfish and we are to expect higher prices. So... Same shite different year
Of course market dynamics affect dynamic markets. That's news to you? Why are you acting like the drought this year wasn't a massive outlier?

On average I’ve caught over 20,000lbs up to January 8th. As of this year I’ve only caught 3,000lbs. The drought is 99% of the problem right now. If it wasn’t for the drought we’d be looking at $3.00lb to the farmer and probably $7lb at the local boil n gos in South Louisiana

But y’all will really be screaming if we end up getting the cold weather that’s forecasted for next week. That will end up killing the little bit of crawfish that is actually out there

Preach. It's bad with potential to get worse.

Not only that but can you imagine what price and availability would be like without the farmed crawfish produced in this state? Wild caught fisheries while prolific from time to time only produce a small fraction of the industry's harvest. People sky screaming that farmers are fricking up their crawfish fix is true comedy.

I'll be eagerly awaiting for the massive price drop when conditions are suitable then. The farmers aren't necessarily who I am bitching about here. It's the people that would pay those stupid prices. And then they would probably complain about paying those prices while they pay it.

Regardless, the beginning of every year has an "outlier" that affects the crop. Good to see so many crawfish farmers on the OT though. Sensitive bunch

I’m not ridiculing you, but just because the price is high don’t go tell someone that doesn’t control the price to go frick themselves. How many times do people need to be taught the farmer has no say so on prices. I’ve always told people if you can’t afford crawfish that’s completely fine wait til it comes down or don’t eat them at all that’s fine too, but quit bitching if you don’t have nothing good to say, keep your mouth shut

I wouldn’t say “sensitive bunch” we're just tired of people slandering us on things we have no control over. News flash crawfish is a very weather dependent commodity. We can’t make crawfish plentiful if they don’t survive the weather. Just educate y'all selves before spewing non facts

Give it up then, bitch boy.

But for God's sake take a midol, put a fricking kotex in your bleeding pussy and stop your incessant bitching and moaning.

To this extent? It sounds like this price is 100%+ higher than it's ever been. What past outliers are you comparing this to and claiming they are of the same relative magnitude?

I'm pretty sure a kindergarten class could understand these truths once explained better than your average OT poster in a crawfish thread.

In your own words “frick them crawfish farmers” all you doing is complaining no one wants to hear that. Keep your mouth shut

Great mindset frick the people that are trying to make a living by working to supply a product that is a luxury for people to have and enjoy. People like you are scum of the earth that think you’re entitled something for nothing.

As a member of a reviled profession, I would suggest not fighting back, it is usually counterproductive on the whole. Lean into it. Crawfish farmers are going to be hated and ridiculed on tOT so fighting back beyond a good-faith attempt to educate is going to increase the venom.

Blaming climate and not Biden is a very bold strategy. People will get triggered.

Your bait supplier also buys your crawfish from you? Sounds kinda weird I guess

I think they get tired of people seeing them as bad guys when they don't control prices. It's supply demand. Just like oil/gas producers don't control Henry Hub and WTI prices. Unless you're a monopoly and own 50% of the market.

How many lbs you catch per year on what # acres and what avg price? You top $1 mil in revenue? What's your net profit? I know this is all personal but I'm curious as to what the take home net income is for say a 1,000 acre crawfish farm.

I've wanted to buy surface/mineral acres like halfway btwn Shreveport and Natchitoches, maybe Coushatta to farm crawfish and drill for nat gas. I know there are a couple crawfish farms there.

I’ve averaged around 800lbs/ac avg price over that time is $1.80lb. Now you have to realize that’s a 20 year avg so avg price per pound isn’t the same now as it was 20 years ago. Every year is different but you can figure $800-$1100 an acre in expenses with water, labor bait land rent etc.
