I had two friends who had a very small wedding with just close family and then threw a Crawfish boil for the reception for all of their friends. I won't lie, it was one of the best wedding receptions I've ever been to. They supplied booze(kegs and open bar with the basics like vodka, rum, bourbon, gin, etc)
It was a blast and they used the $$$ their parents would have spent on a wedding to buy a house with a hefty down payment.
Not for everyone, but I thought it was great.

I’ve done crawfish for wedding parties and rehearsal dinners but never an actual wedding

Only married once, wife twice. If I was to do it again I would for sure. Boil some skrimp too, and hire Jimmy Buffet with the money you saved on dresses and tuxedos, win win.
