That, plus, there are people who would never dare be caught on a pta or wear yoga pants or do manual anything or play a boorish, commoner game such as soccer.

I did. I'm just saying that I disagree. I can truly speak from both sides.
Edit: I also agree with the point about NS kids not knowing the bad areas. I came over here for Mardi Gras in HS and college and didn't know bad from good really. Nothing ever happened but I'm lucky.

I never feel on display across the lake. Never. I'm sure there are judgmental assholes there as well, but I think they see enough people from different backgrounds and whatnot that nothing really phases them. Or maybe they're just better at hiding it.
I told this to my SO the other day. I went to a more affluent church when I was growing up. We were not poor, but we also weren't well off. As I got older, I noticed church was less about mass and more about what people were wearing and parish gossip. When you'd go down the line for communion, you could feel people judging your outfit or hair or whatever the whole way down. And then the ladies would hang out after church discussing. Like, "OMG, did you see so-and-so....?" I didn't really notice it much until I was a teenager and wanted to do different things or wear different things. And I'm not talking anything crazy. It just left such a bad taste in my mouth. That's how the NS feels to me on any given day. It's Easter Sunday, and I'm the girl in the dress everyone thinks is ugly. My SO is from here, and when I told him that he just said, "Nailed it."

How can you disagree?
Do you not think both Uptown and Covington have alot of dining/shopping in close walkable proximity mixed in with residential homes?
Which one doesn't offer that?

Have you tried St. Timothy's?
We're Catholic and our daughter was baptised at OLOL, but really prefer going there now.

Oh, this was in BR. I haven't found a church here. I'm a Catholic in exile. For several reasons, not just the above.

Well, FWIW- St. Timothy's is very nice and has a couple of different services. The contemporary service is alot more music and singing (with of course, a contemporary band and music) while the traditional service has a much longer sermon.
Alot of great activities through the year and so far, everyone we have met has been very nice.

I don't think I would want to live in a world where this is true.

Because a very, very small portion of downtown Covington is walkable. Just about everyone is living amongst the sprawl in places like Tchefuncte CC, Covington CC, Barker's Corner, etc, etc... None of those subdivisions are remotely walkable.
Pretty much everything in Uptown is walkable or can be quickly accessed by bike. Hell, I can get downtown in 15 minutes riding up Camp Street. Most people can walk to Magazine. Riding a bike down 190 towards downtown Covington would probably get you killed.
Not hating on Covington, just saying its not like Uptown really much at all except for a few blocks

We live very close to downtown Cov, and I do like the area a whole lot. My oldest walks places with his friends after school. That's not something that was ever possible for me when I was growing up. He comes in, drops his books, usually asks for money, and goes out with his friends for a few hours after school. That's pretty cool.

Nola is just much more live and let live than the NS.
When you sell a house uptown, the listing says "near the parade route!"
When you live near a parade on the NS you complain and put sticks in your yard so no one an park there. And you certainly don't advertise it in a listing.
Different strokes. People move to the NS to get away from it all. It's not just crime.

Do you mean the portion where all the restaurants and shopping is?

He's not talking about the sprawl; he was referencing a specific area. Hell, I've heard people call it "Little Uptown" since the early 90s and lord knows how long it was said before that.
No, they are not comparable in size or number of offerings, but the area he was referencing in Covington is like Uptown; which it is.

If he is telling the truth, the store owner quoted someone else who was complimenting Covington.

If someone finds it offensive because it comes on the heels of another year where violent crimes in NOLA is on the ride I'm sure the owner would offer an apology by saying "I'm sorry you find it offensive"
Yeah, if you know Pat, that ain't happening.

In all honesty I would not feel safe living uptown. I would not be comfortable in my own home.
I don't see how anyone could disagree that if you are in New Orleans you can't depend on city services at all. Need police? Too bad, NOPD is holding calls. Need electricity or water? Too bad, the city's infrastructure is well past aged.
I can afford to build a very nice home in Lakeview. I really like the idea of Lakeview and being able to walk to Harrison Ave to eat, etc. Great planning and this is the way that neighborhoods should be. However I would never, ever put the amount of money that people are in to a house there because the roads are beyond the worst and the city services are terrible.

Alright, I'll give you that, the smallish, true downtown Covington resembles Uptown Nola to a degree.

Well yes, that is what the whole discussion is about.
Areas like TCC and most subdivisions that are considered Covington are not actually in Covington. They are part of unincorporated St. Tammany Parish.

Really?
Everyone on the Eastbank rags on the Westbank. Metairie people rag on Kenner. Uptown and Gentilly people rag on Lakeview. If you're not in Orleans Parish, to many you don't live in NOLA, and that includes Algiers. Like there is some magic that happens once you cross the 17th street canal.
Don't give me this "NOLA loves all" kum ba yah BS.
