Yeah I mean that's pretty scary... that said, you ALWAYS latch that little door thing on top of the actual door lock.. there is no sneaking in then...

I'm not sure why they're complaining. They got an authentic NO experience.

Yep. This happened to my parents in Belgium in the 1970s.

Not just a NOLA thing or a recent thing.

You people need to stop being racist. Stealing and robbing is culture, but some respect on it!

Lock the deadbolt and use the security latch and this wouldn't happen.

That's my question. Did they not do that?

My wife and I came back from an afternoon wedding in NOLA after being over-served beverages.

The hotel gave someone our room, programmed in a key card, they opened the door and the poor senior citizen woman walked in while we were having sex.

Quite possibly the funniest thing that has ever happened to me. It was the talk of the hotel. Our friends we telling us about it when we met them downstairs later and we told them it was us.

Was the door not locked?

Not blaming the victim, but I seriously want to know how this happened. How the hell did he get inside?

Why can't they just say it was a white guy?

Good advice. If there is no deadbolt then I will prop a chair at door to restrict entry. A similar event happened to me in Los Angles several years ago. Someone entered the room at night through sliding door. I was on 5th floor!! Guess he climbed up the balcony's. Cops were chasing him and I spend the entire night looking at pictures. Fun times in Cali!

What are the odds of that happening exactly during that 5 second window? Crazy!

Very certain this is an inside job (hotel front desk staff, housekeeping, room service, etc.)

It's happening in Las Vegas and other tourist destinations. The thieves appear to be targeting out of state visitors, some may have been observed by hotel staff wearing expensive jewelry and watches, then the information (guest's room number) is given to a friend or relative to commit the burglary while the guests are sleeping. Evidence indicates the thieves are sliding a tool under the door to open it from the inside.

I stayed in Tampa and when I went to my room they had fricked up. Unlocked the door with my card and opened it to find a very attractive woman standing there in a skirt and in the process of removing her bra.

She screamed and I said OH shite I AM SO SORRY, THE DESK MESSED UP.

I headed down to the lobby told the girl at the desk to brace herself for what was coming. The woman came down shortly after and lit into the clerk and the manager. Hotel comped both of our stays.
