So I guess your original contribution to this thread was worthless. Great talk.

Swing and a miss.

My response was essentially laughing at that dude for being upset that people pay the price for what things cost today. Yall are now harping on the $50k truck as if that invalidates the point. Things today cost what they cost. We don't have much choice in unless we simply buy nothing. It's a pointless post to make.

TO be honest, the purchasing decisions of the OT don't really have much to do with anything, so you even bringing up the OT being ok with buying $50k trucks has frick all to do with anything.

And that XLT crew cab that's 48k was 33k 5-6 years ago.

new house price to average income ratio was about 3.7 in ‘78 Now it’s 6.25

Same house more or less? In terms of sq footage, amenities, number of bed and bathrooms etc?

Well they definitely didn't have granite/marble countertops and stainless steel appliances back in '78.

Doubt the sq.ft. and bed and bathroom average has changed dramatically. Still assuming about a 3/2 house would be considered average.

I mean, those 1978 era homes in my area are going for $500,000+, even for the unrenovated/non-modernized ones

Average new house in 1970 was 1500 sq ft. Now it’s closer to 3000.

Average new house in 1970 didn’t have air conditioning, average family was bigger (shared bedrooms and baths)…shits different. Not millennials fault. If people wanted small homes like the 1970s, builders would build them..

I still can't believe we had people posting 23 year old builder grade homes at 250/sqft as an example of "affordable" homes. What a time lmao

bullshite

Average home size by decade

1920: 1,048 square feet
1930: 1,129
1940: 1,177
1950: 983
1960: 1,289
1970: 1,500
1980: 1,740
1990: 2,080
2000: 2,266
2010: 2,392
2014: 2,657

Maybe in 1950 a 3/2 could be a "mansion," but that's stretching it big time.

Where is this? I’m literally prepping a 1500 sq ft, 3/2 built in 1970 that needs modernizing to go on the market. It’s in the second best school district in Georgia and will be priced at $315k. It’s perfectly liveable as is..

But they don't cost 50k. Your point was stupid. If someone buys a 50k truck new, it's because they wanted to spend the extra money on the higher trim. If they just need a new truck, they can easily find a brand new one for significantly less.

Jesus. I had no clue the "average" is almost 3,000 sq. ft. Ours is 2400 and we think it's huge

You don't have to have a high trim to hit $50k.

Sure, they could also find one for significantly more. That's how averages work. The point is that prices are up across the board. You're making an entirely different, irrelevant argument.

Vehicle MSRPs are actually down in real terms.

Now when things were crazy during covid and dealers were marking up, that was a different story.

But going by MSRP, cars are actually less expensive now than they used to be.

So his post laughing at people paying today's prices was even dumber than I originally thought? Thanks
