I like Richardson, but I'd probably prefer to live further north. Plano and points north.

Lots to consider. Losing being close to your local friendships sucks, too. I can attest. Dallas people are pretty full of suck, sometimes. Cowboys this, Cowboys that. Blah, blah, the Cowboys... Jerry Jones. All-the-time. No REAL Mardi Gras. Traffic so bad. Metro area is just huge. Expect your car's fuel bill to rise. Cost of new tires and more maintenance costs are needed more frequently. Your car's value will go lower, and lower and lower from miles and miles of traffic that'll suck out your soul and leave you filled with road rage!

This is a very ignorant post. I've seen worse Baton rouge traffic on I10 than anything I've experienced in Dallas.

Another ignorant post. Garland near 75 and bush, which is what OP is talking about, is a fantastic area. Garland near 75 and 635 is completely different.

As for OP, I would live closer to the city as a single guy. The village like Zappa's said is great. Tons of stuff around it and still an easy commute to the Richardson Garland area.

So you have an opportunity to move to one of the north Dallas communities, and you’re considering staying in Baton Rouge?

Jesus dude, GTFO of La as soon as you can.

Do not move there. You'll find yourself surrounded by non-English speaking Asians and Hispanics. It's not the safest area.

I've been here 25 years and yearly price increases have never been close to what they are now. Prices in my hood have doubled over the last 8 years.....and prices didn't drop much in the recession....pretty much stayed level. And most of DFW has seen prices rise close to 10% per year over the last 8 years. Basically, a $250k house in the burbs 15 years ago before the recession costs $375k now. For close-in houses in the city its been a 12% or more rise per year.

Yes because I know no one in that area and my entire family lives within 1hr of BTR. That is kind of a big deal.

That's like saying don't move to north Dallas because fair park is ghetto.

The area of Garland OP is talking about is no different from Plano or Richardson.

1.15 hr flight from DFW to MSY.

You can even use Love if you hate DFW.

You mean like the 15% raise I got last year?

The main driver is that I work in a technical field and I know I need to get in to management and get experience there because I won't be able to keep up with all the newest stuff as I get older. I am thinking about the future.

I don't know that management will be possible at my current company anytime soon.

They can always visit.

Dallas is better than baton rouge in every measurable way. The good parts of baton rouge can be experienced after a short and flight to MSY and a drive over.

Dallas is a waaaaaayyy better market for tech. Especially in the area you're considering. A lot of doors will open up here.

I get that, but its not exactly the same as hopping in the car whenever you feel like for a 30-40 ride to go and hangout.

That said, I am leaning towards the move if it comes through.

There has been tons of great feedback in here. Keep it coming

Right, so you should know Garland over in the area he's talking about is very nice while the Garland over off 635 near I30 is shitty.

Garland in the firewheel area is just like nicer parts of the other suburbs.

East Plano is a shite hole, but no one says don't move to west Plano because of it.

If you don't care about travel, You can always move up the DNT for cheaper. I live smack dab in between Frisco and Uptown. Everything is within 20 minutes.

If you like uppity bitches then yes move to uptown and pay an arm and a leg for a closet to live in.

Or be sensible and get a 1300 sqft apartment for the same cost

That ~20 minute drive won't throw a monkey wrench in anything. BELIEVE THAT.
