Correlation between visible tattoos and law enforcement officers

First of all, is there actually a correlation between cops and individuals with visible tattoos? Or do shows like Cops and Live PD just provide overexposure to the few officers who do have them?
Secondly, if there is a correlation, why is that?
If visible tattoos are universally considered a sign of poor judgment than why are people in law enforcement, a career which necessitates sound judgement making ability, allowed to have them ?

being a cop requires no education
tattoos are associated with a lack of education
can you really not figure this out from here?

A lot of cops are prior military and tattoos are fricking rampant in the military so maybe.
However, tattoos are becoming more and more acceptable on a societal basis so it’s probably natural that there’d be more cops with them as well.

IDK but a lot of cops are former military and tattoos are very popular in the military.

Why are they universally considered a sign of bad judgment?

Because cops are uneducated yes men making 12 dollars an hour. Choosing a profession as a cop proves their bad decision making.

Because the OT Lounge has told me so for years

This is your flawed line of thinking.
Poor judgment if you're in business, maybe. Poor judgment if you're in law enforcement, absolutely not.
I'd even argue visible tattoos are a benefit to law enforcement because it makes police seem more relatable with the public.

Because making a permanent mark on the only skin you’ll ever have usually involves someone with questionable foresight. For example, if I had to guess I’d say that easily way over half of the prison population in the United States have tattoos.

LivePD probably makes it seems way more common than it actually is, but most of them are former military and that’s where it came from.

Retired from law enforcement in 2011. No tattoos and never wanted any.

I'd guess most cops are ex military, most military folks have tattoos. Not very complicated

And thats exactly the problem with that line of thinking. It happens to correlate with a certain part of the population at a higher rate than average, therefore it’s automatically a poor sign of judgement. Literally the only reason it is actually considered a poor sign of judgment is because judgmental people think it is and they dont like it. There are more people in the world that have tattoos all over that arent pieces of shite and are professional, pay taxes, work their asses off, and are good people. Farrrrrrrr more people with tattoos that are visible are run of the mill normal people. This isnt 1970 anymore.

I don't like it when cops have tattoos or a beard. Makes me feel like I should be the authority figure. Really, I probably should.

The state police and most big city departments disagree.
