I understand the BC and Morganza are opened under different conditions in the River.
I would think some areas below Morganza would benefit from some water being flushed into it.

Open the fricking morganza
We’re nowhere close to needing to do that. Bonnet Carre is opened much earlier than Morganza.

Yeah, screw the operations manual that has successfully kept the river within the levees for the past 90 years.

I totally agree with this statement.
If the USACE re-evaluated it plan and allowed more water at the ORCS down the Atchafalaya, there wouldn’t be a need to open the Bonne Carrie Spillway. The additional water and sediments can be used to further develop the emerging deltas of Wax Lake and the Atchafalaya.
The only issue with more water in the Atchafalaya is back water flooding in western Terrebonne and Amelia.
This issue will be resolved once the Bayou Chene floodgate is built and the state no longer has to rent a barge to prevent the backwater flooding.

And whats your plan when the ORCS fails and the river changes course?
Posted on 3/31/20 at 7:39 pm to Tarps99
All of you who are saying open Morganza are failing to understand the sediment that would drop out of the river from the reduction in flow. Sediment dropping just south of the spillway in the river has a much greater affect than dropping closer to the mouth when the bonnet carre is opened.

Head to higher ground.
But I could not foresee that happening without major indicators or warning signs from the river or structure barring an earthquake or terrorist attack.
I am not talking about the full 250,000 cfs. I am only talking about a quarter of that flow to lessen the need of Spillway openings.

one point 25 million cubic feet per second
When I first read this I thought it was a typo. My eyes saw 25 mil. cfs and my first thought was, the world is gonna end. But when I reread it I see they say one point 25 or 1.25 mil. I realized it’s either a dumbass journalist or the media trying to get some hype for their story. Because if you could imagine standing at one point, and watching 25 million cubes, all one foot in dimension, weighing roughly 8 lbs., and passing by you in one second....that’s a lot of water.
But it’s only 1.25 which isn’t much to write home about in my option for the mighty Mississippi. Just my 2 cents
