Smart move.

Your theory falls apart as we've move beyond 1950s supply chains and people can generally get anything they want with a little patience.

Panic buying = Stupid people. These people pay higher prices all the time because they're never prepared.

But still went to UT? Is that like the Harvard of the south? Please don't brag about that education.

He's an a-hole because you're not prepared with a couple of weeks supply of stuff anyway.

For someone who seems to pride themselves on self-reliance it's kind of odd you've embraced technology and society so much you have 180-fricking-thousands posts on an internet message forum.

It's not excessive or unfair if you agree to buy it. If the value of a bottle is $70 to you, it's a fair price.

Roger, many of us understand economics and took micro and macro in college. That’s not what we’re arguing. We’re arguing the fact that what this numbnuts did was shitty. Plain and simple. I know some of you (not you but some of the other hotshots) in this thread are either in school or fresh out, and feel the need to “dazzle” us with their business school elective knowledge. But what has been completely missed in the world of principles is common sense. It’s a rookie mistake. It’s the way a fresh college grad thinks, until he/she grows up a little bit.

This guy literally created the shortage you’re blaming other people for not predicting

You don’t even understand basic market principles because this isn’t a natural scarcity, it’s a scam that some piece of shite is running and you’re defending it out of some feigned commitment to The Free Market.

I moved to TN while in high school.

I don’t need any information from you to tell that you have a limited understanding of basic economic principles. Which is what this entire discussion was about.

He is an ahole because he is limiting access to an item when can help mitigate the spread of disease. I have purell and tp at home.

Honestly do you think spouting a couple econ101 makes you sound smart? Or are actually such a child tou subscribe to a "100% capitalism/ the market is always right" worldview?

I hope you are just going for some edgy troll or something

It's the straw men you switched the discussion to be about... but still ended up failing. Keep trying.

Deliberately creating a shortage like this POS did is not a matter of supply and demand like the free market worshipers like to spout off.

Okay. We've got two separate issues here. You're intertwining them to strengthen your classroom argument.

Yes, panic buying is stupid and counterproductive. Retail fronts can proactively limit this by restricting quantities of certain items per customer once they see a panic buy going off. This will also save them from having to fire sell a metric ton of toilet paper when this craze passes over.

This specific story we're talking about is two guys destroying the supply of toilet paper and hand sanitizer in the few counties surrounding them specifically so they can put it online and price gouge. Who cares if they can sell it, they've just removed the supply from their neighbors. If Bo down the street wants to buy a 4 pack of toilet paper and a case of beer, he can't. He can get online and get it delivered in two days, sure, but if everybody does the same thing our two assclowns did, his price options are going to be limited.

I live in Chattanooga where this guy bought all that shite. There’s a shortage of everything right now. I think the guy is a moron but Amazon isn’t making this better by banning him for selling it at an “unfair” price, which doesn’t even make sense right now. Let him sell it.

It sounds terrible on the surface but this is a good thing. The increased prices incentive others to sell/produce more hand sanitizer, therefore, creating a safer society. Eventually, the prices will come back down as more sanitizer is in the market.

I guarantee Amazon prices their products to maximize profits and as demand increases for their product, they increase the price.
