Coronavirus has taken both my grandparents

Just found out my grandfather died tonight around 9:30-10:00. Grandmother died March 28, we buried her yesterday. My grandfather was unable to go to the funeral. It was a funeral unfitting of the life she lived. With my grandfather, it’ll be the same way. Both died of complications stemming from China flu. fricking sucks man.
They’re my mom’s parents, they had the flu for about a week, mom took them to the hospital one afternoon because they were old and were having a hard time shaking it. They tested positive for the flu and not corona. Fast forward about a week, and they were both fading quickly. They both were tested and as it turns out, they both got it and they both got bilateral pneumonia from going to the hospital for the flu. Doctors wouldn’t even allow them in the same room in the end.
From my mom trying to take care of them, she has also contracted the virus and is still trying to work it out of her system. Low grade but persistent fever and a very dry cough that’s persistent. Nobody can hug my mom’s neck right now, not even my dad who has been staying at their house alone while my mom stays at my grandparents house trying to beat the virus. Nobody other than my mom was able to go see my grandfather since they admitted him to the COVID floor.
Making matters worse for us is that my mom’s only sibling is currently on hospice. Her younger brother has cancer all over his body and is somehow still clinging on. He doesn’t have much longer either.
This is going to be an incredibly rough next few months for my mom who just retired in December.
My wife and I just found out a couple weeks ago that we’re expecting our first child together. The kid would’ve been my grandparents’ first great-grandchild. We told my mom the day my grandmother died to try and lift her spirits a bit.
Hell, the only grandparent I have left is my Alzheimer riddled grandmother on my dad’s side who is literally unable to even form words now.
fricking China man...frick that place.
A local Tom Rinaldi type did a story on my grandparents. It’s pretty damn touching.
ETA: sorry if the post is kinda difficult to understand, I didn’t really proofread it. I was just typing what came into my head.

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry, that is unbearable. Where do you all live? Would like to add your family to prayer list.

Sorry to hear that. On the bright side, you got to enjoy having grandparents into adulthood. Many don’t get to experience that.

That’s essentially the way I’m looking at it. My grandfather had COPD, asthma, and emphysema. He was on a CPAP machine 24/7 and had been for probably close to 10 years now. We all looked at it with the thought process of “hey we got one more year with him, that’s just bonus at this point.” My grandmother didn’t have the internal health issues he did, but she wasn’t the strongest person ever if that makes sense. She was always falling, and injuring herself that way.
Just wish I’d have gotten to tell them both goodbye. I didn’t get to tell my grandmother about the baby on the way, but I made sure to tell my grandfather the day she died just in case he was right after her. Tough old bull made of a whole almost two weeks.

His heart was probably broken and his love did him in. I am so sorry to hear this for you and your family. I hope my comment isn't taken out of context.
