Community reaction live update:
The flock of retirees that hang out at PAC in Mandeville for 6 hours/day in gym clothes without ever getting within 20 ft of a piece of exercise equipment are not worried about the virus.
The bored housewives committee by the ellipticals seem moderately worried.
The baws in the weight room who cut off the bottom of their t-shirts in case a “best abs” competition somehow breaks out at 8AM are still not sure what a virus is.

A. between 40-70% of all USA will get it
B. 1.6 milli of us will die in next 12-18 months
Did the meaning of the word "fact" change?

US mortality rate down to 2.2%.
350m times the 80% who that magical expert panel said were destined to get is 280m
280m times .022 is 6,160,000. Down to just 6 million deaths in the next 12-18 months, boys!
I'll update when more numbers come in in a few hours.

There's no cure for the common cold either.
So 1,600,001 US deaths on or before 3/13/21, right?

I know you are quoting the experts here, but can you justify their numbers mathematically? Rates, percentages, etc?

quote:Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen anyone even claiming to be a scientist who has said over a million will die. It's just you saying that.

Anybody know why the Hopkins tracker stopped showing Italy data?
Maybe it's just something with mine?

science say this:
40-70% of the US population will be infected over the next 12-18 months. After that level you can start to get herd immunity. Unlike flu this is entirely novel to humans, so there is no latent immunity in the global population.
[We used their numbers to work out a guesstimate of deaths— indicating about 1.5 million Americans may die. The panelists did not disagree with our estimate. This compares to seasonal flu’s average of 50K Americans per year. Assume 50% of US population, that’s 160M people infected. With 1% mortality rate that's 1.6M Americans die over the next 12-18 months.]
