Was thinking about past scares such as this one and two I could think of were “swine flu” and “bird flu”. If the corona virus was called the “corona flu”, instead of virus, would there be significantly less panic? I say yes, even though the swine flu was also a virus, I think the name “flu” puts people’s mind more at ease because they associate the flu with not being fatal.

I thought it wasn’t a flu

What if we called it SARS?

Swine flu was a type of flu so I don’t get the comparison besides just suggesting we lie about what it is.

It's called Covid-19 to try to keep it from being sensationalized like bird flu and swine flu.

Flu is called the flu bc it's caused by the inFLUenza virus.

Coronavirus is called caronavirus bc it's a coronavirus and not influenza.

Both the flu and corona are viruses that affect the respiratory system. Swine flu was also a virus as is the regular flu, the corona virus being classified as influenza would not be a stretch at all. My post was just saying that though swine flu sounds like you will just get sick, while corona “virus” sounds deadly.
