Who is going to take care of him?
Get him out of bed and dressed? Fix his meals? Make sure he doesn't do something crazy while you are at work?
There is about to be a huge market with boomers reaching their late 80's or 90's and some of the troubles that come with that.

$3K/month for a 1 bedroom apartment??
Most likely will include 3 meals a day, utilities, transportation, and activities,

The Metairie skyline is like the portfolio of a 1960s architecture student taking remedial courses.

Is it assisted living?
Probably Independent Living. Assisted Living care charges would be considerably more than starting at $3K per month.
Even in IL, a person can be on hospice. Yes, that is correct. No state regulations on IL. Often times, the acuity level in an IL community is greater than that of an AL community.

Sure, if that's the decision. I'm not convinced it is. Is selling your home to live in Copeland Tower an improvement in quality of life? Would all 75-year-olds prioritize "quality of life" over their children? Lord knows I'm not doing that at 44.
At what age do we lose that agency over how we live our lives and allocate our time and money? How often do we really want a judge deciding that? Often enough to fill "Copeland Tower?"

Wow, the classification is probably more complicated than I realized.
Assumed the 3 meals and nurse checking in a few times was considered assisted living.

He has enough money to pay someone to come do that when the time comes if necessary. I'm assuming he's not going to get Alzheimers or something like that here.

16 floor Senior Living community? What a nightmare.
Looks like Independent Living reservations only for now. Wouldn’t be surprised to see an AL license at some point.

If you're under conservatorship you're going to be in a nursing home or similar facility. People who live in a place like this are doing so voluntarily.

We used to have proms there. Now maybe I can have my 100th birthday party there.

I doubt it fills up at those prices, then, but I could be wrong.
Clearly they've got their eyes on the geriatric set of Old Metairie. Whether they're able to make that work depends heavily on getting little friend groups in there.
One old woman moves in, and then her friends are looking at their overgrown lawns and decaying Chrysler Imperials and wondering about joining the club. $3,000 / month isn't all that much money to some of those people.

Yea.... I don’t think old Metairie peeps will be living in Copeland Tower lol

A big issue is people are going to be gunshy about communal living arrangements for a while. Nobody wants to be at ground zero of a pandemic again.

Do those units have balconies? Is there any greenspace? What about walk trails or places for the wheelchair bound patients to wheel around in a safely manner? Just doesn’t seem like a high rise senior living facility in the middle of the part of Metairie where a hotel couldn’t even support.
That location is shite for something like that and Al Jr is just trying to milk the boomers

Sounds like a high rent retirement community
Fixed it for you.
3k a month
Hopefully, if includes 3 square meals a day, free drinks at the bar, cable tv, utilities, and retirement activities.
I have a feeling they priced it to what the maximum amount of money that a Social Security recipient can receive and based it on that thinking the residents have a few more dollars coming in IRA or 401k’s for other expenses like medical care?
Jesus 3k a month. You could stay a hotel for about the same price. Oh wait, it was a hotel.

Does that include stabbing/robbery protection? If so, it's a steal.

For the aging Metairie hookers that used the hotel over the years ?

Like I said, I don't see it working. That has to be the target, though.
It did kind of work with that Christwood place in Covington. The rents there are probably higher than $3,000 / month, and there's at least as much money in Old Metairie as there is in Tchefuncta Club Estates.
Christwood worked because of social group widow migration- probably easier in a somewhat more isolated community like Tchefuncta than it will be in Old Metairie. And the aesthetic at Christwood is better, with the preppy little school, greenery, less vertical facilities, etc.

As a son, I couldnt imagine shelling out that and putting one of my parents there. They can just live with me, or next door or down the street for that price.

Did everyone in this thread understand that this would be a "senior living facility" which is expensive?
