I was just answering the question that was asked.
It is like talking about softball players winning the mlb home-run derby in a thread about something very different.

this officer did everything he could possibly do. Hell, he probably should have been more aggressive from the beginning actually
Therein lies the issue. Police goes hard on someone right away to avoid getting into this position and everyone freaks out with POLICE BRUTALITY. He plays nice and things get to a critical point, everyone says WHY DIDNT HE DO SOMETHING SOONER? Bad situation to be in.
There is a point DURING A LAWFUL ARREST when resistance needs to be dealt with quickly and with aggression. This would have been an ideal situation for a Taser, OC or baton. When the officer couldn't get him cuffed, prior to going to the ground, he could have made distance and gone to town.

Thread title makes it seem like a cop shot an on duty fireman attempting to put out a fire. Instead of was a drunk off duty fireman who was trying to beat the shite out of a cop.
Not to open old wounds but typical...like Jefferson beating up a Marine, when actually the Marine was just another typical drunk un-uniformed douchebag in a college bar.

The two situations couldn't be more different.

It sounds like the shots came too quickly after the drunk got the upper hand, but if that little nerd filming to try and catch him some police brutality had instead answered the cop's request for assistance, he would probably have saved a life and been lauded a hero.
I understand the danger, but 2 against 1 with your "partner" having training and a weapon, and the other guy inebriated, I think I'm offering some assistance.
I was ready to
the cop going by the title, but when the drunk starts pounding his face, the cop made the right call.

quote:Yes, cops can be put into extremely tough circumstances. But the once from yesterday where it is 5 on 1 is no excuse

This is nuts seeing this here, I actually went to high school with the firefighter that got killed. He was a few years older than me. I guess he had just gotten married the day before this happened too

Cop was wearing his police uniform, offduty, while working private security for a private business.
None of that I really have a problem with. But he was certainly not a "cop" at the time of the shooting.
He was a damn security guard wearing a costume.

WTF does that have to do with anything?

The wormy little nerd behind the camera could have very well saved a life had he helped. I know hindsight is 20/20.

You're a fricking idiot. He most certainly was a cop. Not that it has any bearing on the situation. It was self defense. No different than you getting your arse kicked and pulling a gun to defend yourself.
