If you've been contemplating purchasing a high priced item online but have been holding out...you might want to do it before the end of the year. Louisiana is gonna start making all online merchants charge sales tax, just like Amazon started doing last year.

I plan on doing a huge home renovation next year. Might buy my appliances now and store them until I'm ready.

You owe use tax on them anyway. Makes zero difference if you don't want to evade your taxes.

They already do. The difference is that the change will force you to pay it upfront vs sending nasty letters demanding you remit the tax on purchases from certain vendors.

I got a ton of these last year because certain companies like Oriental Trading don’t withhold tax but do pass on information to the states.

Seems like a unit would cost more than the sales tax, unless you have the space at your house.

When I was building, I waited until Memorial Day to buy my appliances. In store markdown purchase with free shipping and warranty. I think a lot of the holidays have similar sales.

Oh and frick the government.

You can probably buy those same appliances in the next year for 10% or more less than what you'll pay today. Seems like a wash at best.

I wonder if this applies to buying stuff off eBay?

Or wait for the tax-free weekends that stores offer sometimes, even the state offers a couple days a year if I'm not mistaken.
