Lol equinox sucks
We have a 2013 Equinox. Having it serviced now due to some engine issues. 90k miles. Service guy wasn't shy about telling us how bad the engine is in that year model. He said Chevrolet did a big redesign of the engine in 2014.

Bought my wife one a little over a year ago...great compact SUV. Do it!

I have never met someone with a Subaru who didn't love it.
I wish my wife would be open to it when we trade in her car for a SUV.

Ya, I know the comedians come out in threads like this.
Like I said, we test drove one before we ended up with the Equinox. Wife liked the fuel efficiency of the Equinox over the Outback, but the Outback we drove was one of the smoothest riding cars I've been in. I was very surprised.

Mrs. Esquandolas has a 2017 Touring Edition...it's our 5th Outback in 15 years (3 year leases).
This time around, we went for the 3.6L motor, as I always felt the 4 cylinder was a bit underpowered.
My only complaint is the reach to the screen on the dash. There should be a dial/knob just below the armrest to control the functions of the infotainment system (think BMW, Audi, Lexus, Benz)--if you like to channel surf or use the phone a bit, it gets to be a pain in the arse having to constantly have your arm fully extended out.
Drive wise--it is a great car. Resale on Subaru is one of the best out there.

I've heard that they are great cars but they are really f'ing ugly. Look like a mid 80s station wagon.

A little more expensive than a comparable Honda or Toyota.
She won't be needing expensive hairstyles, manicures, or even razors and shaving cream, so you'll come out ahead in the long run.

I think our options right now are the Outback (which she wants) and the Toyota Highlander (which I want her to get), but I'd be completely fine with either one.

Any long time owners here? Wondering how's the dependability and such.
Fantastic car.
I have an F-150 for the weekends, but drive an Outback (2011) to work (90-mile round trip). It consistently gets 29-30 mpg and hasn't had 1 mechanical problem in 117K miles.
When this one dies in 10-15 years, I will be getting another.
I may have the only Outback in the world with an NRA sticker.

Agree to disagree, although I will agree that the number of good looking models is slim these days.

It's a great car. Ignore the OT regulars; they're dumb enough to still buy from the American car companies.

Make sure to ask for the Boulder Option Package, comes with Coexist and Bernie Sanders Bumper stickers as well as a hidden Dope compartment.

Just take her to the regular Outback instead. The Toowomba pasta is pretty good.

Truth be told, can't say I remember an unhappy Subaru owner.

Well anything would be an upgrade from an equinox

A little more expensive than a comparable Honda or Toyota.
If you put AWD on comparable-sized and otherwise-optioned Toyotas or Hondas, their pricing is right in line with Subaru.

You're not kidding.. damn thing developed a rattle behind the radio inside the console within the first year. Rattles are a very big pet peeve of mine. I never drive it though.

Walt, you crack me up. You usually take the contrarian point of view on topics like this.
