I've heard so many different things about what is and isn't legal about having a concealed handgun in my car. Some say it's illegal and others say that your car is considered an extension of your home, therefore making it legal to have a gun concealed. Does anyone know what the actual legal precedent is with this?

Edit: I live in Louisiana

If you're in Louisiana you can hide your weapon anywhere u like in your car, it's when u exit the car that u must open carry unless you have a permit.

If you get pulled over, are you legally obligated to inform the officer that you have a weapon?

In AL, you need a concealed carry permit to have a loaded firearm in your vehicle.

It's considered an extension of your home in Louisiana. Go to Alabama and you better have that shite locked in a box that can survive an atomic explosion and completely inaccessible.

If you have a concealed weapons permit one of your obligations to inform a LEO that you have a permit and you're packing.

Well it's not an "extension" of your home, it's constitutionally protected domain like your home.

It's legal, but when the police ask if you have a gun and you say "yes" they will immediately want to search your car, so I have found out. So I keep mine in a gun safe in my console and just say "no"

You don't sound educated enough to be carrying a gun.

Unless you have a concealed carry permit. Louisiana CCL holders have reciprocity in Alabama.

Haha okay? Not too sure what I said to make me sound uneducated. The reason for the post was actually to educate myself on the law, but your welcome to your own opinion, bud.
