My wife has a cross trek and I love driving it. Great, comfortable ride for that price. She’s 5’2” and doesn’t have a problem reaching the lift gate.

I'd take a serious look at the Kia Sorento. Great warranty and decent size. You could add aftermarket leather to a lower priced one and save some money.
