MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The community has stepped up to help a Monroe teacher looking for help with school supplies to improve her students' learning experience.

According to Alyssa Reuther's Adopt A Classroom page, her classroom fundraising goal has been met. Reuther was highlighted by KNOE earlier this week after she went online to help fund her classroom at J.S. Clark.

Reuther was also given a little extra money for her classroom by Duck Dynasty's Uncle Si and United Automation as part of a community outreach initiative by West Monroe PD.

It's a damn shame that schools can't even afford supplies for classrooms.

Our church sponsors a school around here and gives out backpacks w school supplies to all the kids. Otherwise yeah the teachers are stuck doing that shite. Which is nice of them but hey shouldn’t have to do that

This aggravates me. These teachers know what they are getting into when they teach in these shitty schools in Louisiana. My wife is a teacher and while the supplies and equipment they are given is absolutely pathetic I would never expect her to ask for help or handouts from people. I received a FB message a few weeks ago from another teacher in our parish asking for donations from myself and numerous other business owners to help replace the furniture and improve the appearance of her class room. This lady knows my wife is a teacher and she couldn't understand why I wouldn't support her. It's a shame so many La parish schools are in such bad shape but these teachers know this already.

Schools can afford it. Don’t let them fool you.

Schools just don’t put it as a priority.

My wife spends over $1,000 a year of our personal money on classroom supplies. The government lets us deduct $250 as a tax exception each year.

So we have that going for us....which is nice.

Of all the people to be pissed at for the shitty conditions of the Louisiana schools, it seems weird to be aggravated at teachers who are making an effort to improve them.

Poor teachers, literally the only job in the country where you have to use personal funds for items used on the job. Complete horseshite.

Plenty of shitty public schools across the country don’t expect their teachers to pay for all that, it’s just in Louisiana shitty schools they are expected to. I’m not saying Louisiana only, but it can be common here. That’s not something schools advertise to incoming teachers before they hire them. Plenty of teachers get hired at a school not expecting to have to do that.

Now guess what, every other teacher is going to do the same or start a go fund me page. It cost me a lot out of me and my wives pocket to give kids pencils, binders, note books and buy copy paper for all the test since the school board provides one box of paper for the entire year. Not to mention buying a copy machine since the school has a total of one on the opposite end of the school from her.

Wan't to help schools? Allow sports betting and tax the shite out of it and re-distribute a large portion of it to schools to help improve one of the worst and poorest education systems in the country.
