The current drainage structure is situated essentially at the interface of the river bottomlands and the natural bluff so even when the MR is elevated and flooding the bottom lands, there will be sufficient head to drive gravity flow from diversion into river.

They changed the design for the I-10 widening because of that. I know it had an impact, not sure what though.

They changed the design for new I-12 construction itself farther east of where the problem was. You can see the slots at the bottom of the barricade the cut in the new construction. Maybe it will help a little but a quickly rising Amite won't be able to pass easily through those little slots.

By the time you're dealing with the East side of the Amite River north of the Comite confluence you're probably not even making an inch of difference, as everything dumped south of the diversion canal is still flowing down toward the Amite and backing up all the way to the diversion canal.

For a lopsided load like that, it would back flow like it did in 2016. Which would absolutely reduce the levels on the Amite near the Comite.

So let’s just eliminate New Orleans? Maybe we can move it to northern Alabama or Tennessee.

This has to be hyperbole.

They were estimating an 8” drop for a much less severe flood.

Not my quote. But if it isn't hyperbole, it's very misinformed.

They know how to construct locks where they connect to the levee system. They had to do it for the Caernarvon & Davis Pond Diversions.
