Or the better question- how can a robot justify use of force when it can't feel like it's life is in danger? How could an operator justify use of force when his life is clearly not in danger
You do realize deadly force can be used to protect the life of others right? There are certain situations where a person can legally be shot in the back.
That's not to say I support armed drones being used all "willy nilly", or even used at all.
Btw, your thread title is a little misleading. A bill making weaponized drones illegal with an exception for law enforcement does not mean they suddenly become standard issue to every department across the country.

Read the whole thread... I addressed this.

The fact that they're carving out an exception for law enforcement should give you an idea about where this sort of legislation is going. Legislators pay attention to other state govts. See MJ legalization, DWI laws, civil asset forfeiture, etc.
If this is legalized in CT it's just a matter of time it's legalized elsewhere.

They better make sure all the Drone programmers and/or operators are black.

I know, right?
I mean the other day a SWAT team mistakenly served a no knock warrant at my house. My wife was alone with the dog when they busted in. Thinking they were intruders she grabbed her gun, but it turned out to be the cops so they shot her and my dog for presenting an imminent threat. Unfortunately, they were at the wrong house. It was cool, though. They said they were super sorry.
But, hey, at least they weren't doing anything wrong.

IMO its a bad idea for local PD's to have weaponized drones. Not really opposed to the FBI having something like this in their arsenal for use in extremely rare circumstances, like the Dallas cop shooter standoff.

Tell your wife to stop playing stupid games. If she does then she'll stop winning stupid prizes.

SWAT was originally created for this purpose. That original use has justified their existence in no knock raids, search warrants, and stake outs.... Or in some cases justifying their existence by their use in making non deadly situations deadly...

I wrote that in her obit. What a dumb bitch. It's like people don't get it. Why would you pull a gun on a cop who busted down your door unannounced? You couldn't see he was wearing body armor in the half second before he shot you? I mean this is common sense shite. I blame these violent video games and rap music.

You're a better man than me, I could never marry a black woman. They're too sassy.
Posted on 3/31/17 at 2:06 pm to LucasP
Black? Did you miss the part where I talked about my dog?
Nah, she was Mexican...or German, or some shite like that. I don't know, I'm not some doctor or something.

I personally think you may be overreacting a little. I think we are a long ways away from weaponized drones being a standard tool at departments across the country. I can see some situations where they would be useful but there is a lot that would have to be addressed before they are designed and sold for LE

During the police shootings in Texas, did they not strap a bomb on a drone and walk/roll it into where the suspect was hiding and detonate it?
Yep!!
Did they ever decide on its name?

It amazes me when it comes to this issue how "conservatives" have blind faith in the state and its agents. The same folks who don't believe the government can manage your money or spend your tax dollars want to give state agents the unilateral and split second ability to take one or more person's life. It seems like cognitive dissonance to me.

What are you? Some sort of Libertarian? Everyone knows that bullshite Non-Aggression Principle doesn't work in practice.

If you don't want the police to have killer drones, I only have one question for ya?
When you moving to France you damn libtard? We are about freedom here and freedom can only be attained through armed swarms of liberty giving drones.

A safety net flying above us. We should name it Skynet...

Your family must have got here after the Revolutionary War because I refuse to believe the forefathers blood runs in your veins.

Even as a law enforcement officer, I'm against this. Too much room for abuse and misuse.
However, I can see a couple applications for it - if that is all it would be used for. Older New Orleans residents on here should remember the name Mark Essex. An armed drone might have ended that engagement sooner. Charles Whitmore would be another incident that could have been terminated sooner with less loss of life.
Not ready to cede my liberty over to the government for the few times these might be utilized, though.
