There’s surveillance footage of the kid frantically pulling on locked door handles.

t’s wrestling. Cutting weight. This isn’t the hardass football coach from the 60’s withholding water breaks to toughen them up. Let’s not act like cutting weight with dehydration doesn’t happen in wrestling/MMA/Boxing
How long ago did you wrestle?

Coaches have the opposite approach now. And probably have for at least 10 years.

Safety is first and foremost with every wrestling coach that both of my boys worked with.

If a coach thought you were harming your body to get an edge, you would be cussed out and then benched for weeks.

This happened a while back, but the details of the story are heartbreaking. UC is going to pay big time and they should.

Yeah, you gain nothing by seriously dehydrating your players. Some people are too stupid to be coaches.

As a high school wrestling coach I can say this is not the norm. If you need to get him mentally tough at the college level, he isn't cut out for the sport. Once they get to be seniors in high school, most are tougher than many adults I know. We take frequent water breaks throughout practice. As far as cutting weight, I don't encourage it. They usually figure it out based on where they see an opening in the lineup. We discuss it, and come up with a plan based on their decension. It's not like it was in the old days of garbage bags and sweats cutting 20 lbs in a week
